Finally...the first round is only a few days away (TH night). Seems like the extra time delayed it a few months instead of weeks.

Where will the Horns go (by round)? Does your NFL team have a need in any of these positions that they might fill with a Texas player based on their expected slot in the draft?

Here's the list of draft eligible Horns:

Carrington Byndom

Mike Davis

Anthony Fera

Donald Hawkins

Trey Hopkins

Jackson Jeffcoat

Adrian Philips

Mason Walters

Chris Whaley

Reggie Wilson

Most projections have Jeffcoat as 3rd-4th round, followed by Davis in the 4th-5th, Fera in 6th-7th, Whaley in 6th-7th, and Byndom in the 7th. That would be 5 players getting selected, which would be solid WRT to last season and their careers.

Hawkins, Hopkins, Walters all will get FA invites IMO. Philips and Wilson are not locks to get invites, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did - very little downside to having them to a camp.

Cowboys fan here...been one since the Jimmy Johnson era and won't let them go even though I know we'll probably never win another championship until Jerry no longer has his hands meddling in the football affairs...but I digress.

Cowboys have a bunch of needs and Johnny Manziel isn't one of them (just to get that out of the way).  Sure, they can draft a QB later and it would be fine, but trading up to draft Manziel would be for $$$ purposes only.

In regards to Longhorns in the draft and how they fit in the needs of the 'Boys, it would be easier to point out the players that the Cowboys don't need:

Anthony Fera.

The Cowboys are set at kicker and won't need another on the roster unless Bailey gets hurt.

I could imagine the Cowboys reaching in the second at Jackson Jeffcoat, but they most likely won't give him a look unless he's available in the third round.

Davis could also be a decent grab late in the sixth with the cut of Miles Austin, but I'll be surprised if he's still available by that time.

I'd love to see Chris Whaley get a shot as a little project, and I can see that happening with the new defensive staff.

Has Whaley's recovery progressed to the point where he'd get drafted ?

I hate drafting kickers, but Fera would be an upgrade for the Texans over Bullock.

Jerry has had opportunities to draft Longhorns but never pulls the trigger. He overpaid for Roy and we had an offensive lineman from UT and that's all I can remember right now. I get the feeling jerry does not like or appreciate UT players. I would love for them to get Jeffcoat. First daddy Jeffcoat then little Jeffcoat.

I think Jeffcoat is a serious possibility for the Boys. He'd fit Marinelli's scheme fairly well and we have an open space there with the departure of Ware. I could see Fera going in the 6th to a very lucky team. I see Byndom going undrafted.

I see Byndom going undrafted.

When CB cut loose in the 4.3's at Pro Day, he really helped himself/gave himself a chance. Some team could take a 7th round flyer totally based on his 40 - NFL G.M's eat up measurables like that for justification.

As a Boys fan. . . would love to see them pick up Jeffcoat in the 3rd. . . given Arnold and Barr are likely off the board by #16. . .would not be shocked (frankly as long as they dont' get burned) with DA Boys trading down a few slots and adding more picks. . .this draft is deep with "solid" players and thin at can't miss/difference makers. .

Da Boys also have six 7th round picks though no 6th. . .

Picking up a Chris Whaley and either Hopkins or Hawkins as projects would be awesome. . . just me but I think Whaley has the athleticism to play for years in the NFL.

I hope Jeffcoat is a strong possibility with their 3rd

I really think the light went on for Phillips last year. . .he was a far different player. .. .
