Let's talk about Aggy

The more I hear Aggy isn't this or that, the more I know that they're coming.

People always deny or rationalize before they realize it's happening.

I remember people saying that Baylor would go back to being Baylor after RG3 was gone. Somehow Briles found another QB.

I have a sense that aggy is going to be fine, especially with the way they are recruiting.

I never put my head in the sand when it comes to little brother. I suggest my fellow Longhorns do likewise.

When aggy finally manages to make going 8-4 no longer over-achieving and their biggest wins of the season are no longer over teams like Rice and Duke, I will start thinking about taking them seriously. This next season will be interesting. They have to start beating decent teams in their conference (they don't schedule decent teams OOC). They have been living off their win against Alabama year before last about as long as they could hope to. If they don't start beating ranked opponents more often than not, they are going to lose a lot of momentum. Having division or conference championships out of the question starting early in the season and making your season's goal a chicken sandwich bowl isn't what most elite athletes seek.

The fight between aggy, Ole Miss and Arky this season will be fun to watch to. If Bielema starts making things happen at Arky and if Ole Miss' recruiting pays off, aggy could easily go back to being the team that just can't get their sh!t together.

Why all this talk about the aggies. I guess some of y'all still care what the aggies are doing. I don't care and could care less about keeping up with them on the information front. I stopped watching there games when they ran off to the SEC. They could care less about us. The aggies are the only collage I know of that defames another collage logo on the car. They are like a little brother who is always to live up to his older brothers achievement. The only reason I took the time to read this is my courtesy why we are talking about the aggies. This is just the way I feel I sure don't expect anyone else to feel the same way. My friends y'all have a great week.

The aggies had a perfect storm of moving to the SEC and an exciting heisman QB that has really raised their stock in the recruits eyes. They are hot right now and unfortunately that comes at a cost to us and anyone else that recruits this state. I do think they will come down to earth a bit over the next few years. I am not convinced that Sumlin can actually coach. Maybe he can, I just have not seen it. He had an all-world QB the last two years and could not manage better than 5th in their conference.

If we start winning and and being exciting again like we were up until 2009, we will take the focus back. The aggies have to have a lot of things go right for them to be "the team" in the state, we just have to win.

One of the issues with the ags is that they are so damned vocal and they received a fair amount of attention from the sports press over the past few years. Their almost pathological need to re-write their history and skew it in their favor affects us a fair amount at the present. Their bleating that the senior administrators at Texas are inherently dishonest and that dishonesty was a material factor in their changing conferences doesn't help our brand or image. People who don't know them well take them at face value.

One of their claims is that they are doing well now they are no longer being held back by UT. Until they shoot themselves in the foot and revert to form, Their efforts to redefine their image reflects on our image. Being THE program in the state of Texas matters in terms of image on a large stage. They are effectively trying to lay claim to being THE program in Texas.

The University of Texas has long had a well defined image. That image has changed over time, but we have long been a target for other universities and other athletics programs simply because we represent what they want to be, that being top dog. People talk about Texas being the wealthiest public university (by a large margin) in the nation. They $20B number that is thrown around for the endowment value is highly misleading. It values only the securities and commodities the investment portfolio and places a zero value on the two million acres of land and mineral rights. Add in the value of all the assets in the PUF and our endowment becomes even more ridiculous. Because Austin is the largest city in the nation without a pro sports franchise competing with UT for sports entertainment dollars and the nature of our alumni base, our athletics program produces insane amounts of money. Having the financial resources and the recruiting resources makes us a huge target when we don't produce expected results in any aspect of the University.

Aggy desperately wants to supplant us at the premier university in Texas. In most regards, a university's most visible face is their athletics program. In our world, our most visible face is out football program. If aggy supplants Texas as the accepted premier college football program in Texas it redefines their public image. To a lesser degree, it affects our image. Hence, we have an interest in what aggy is doing.

Personally, I get the sense aggy is more worried about their image and not paying attention to the reality. They want to win so badly, I don't think a number of them care what it takes. I would be shocked if the school was involved with anything like paying players, but boosters may well be doing so. I don't know. What is of interest to me is the multiple drug arrests in 2012 and 2013 for both weed and pills at the same time. Ricky Williams smoked weed. To my knowledge, he wasn't abusing alcohol, weed and prescription medications all at the same time. There is some heavy partying going on over there. Sumlin knows it, and probably Hyman knows it, too. Hyman needs to look out for the long term interests of the program and Sumlin needs to win now. It was public knowledge that when 10% of the scholarship players were ineligible to step on to the field to start the 2013 season against Rice, it was because Hyman insisted on it and Sumlin wasn't pleased.

The issue with aggy isn't whether they can capitalize on their current success and attract talent. They have shown they can. They question is whether they can build a program over there that can win on a regular basis. Sumlin can coach, but so can Bielema. Ole Miss has recruited just as well as aggy over the past two years. Auburn and Alabama can bend (or break) the rules FAR better than aggy can. Les Miles is held to a VERY low standard for the character of athlete he recruits. Those idiots in Louisiana just want to win. Aggy has their work cut out for them. Sumlin is unquestionably making it clear to recruits they are athletes first and students as an afterthought. How all this plays out long term is anyone's guess. One thing is for sure, if aggy has another season in 2014 like they did in 2012, they are going to set new standards in the stat of Texas for obnoxious behavior and we are all going to have to deal with it. I don't think it happens, but we all need to keep out eyes on aggy for a number of reasons.

I ain't worried about their last two years, I am extremely scared of what they might do in the next 5 years!!!!!

Our roster needs to be overhauled before we play them. Their young talent is better than ours, just saying. Let Strong have time to actually change the culture before we take them down.

i think this next year can be a very defining year for Aggy. If they do well, they can parlay that and continue to recruit well. If they don't do well, they could easily be out recruited and described as a "one hit wonder."

Looks like Auburn is close to going full aggy

#Auburn AD Jay Jacobs says the school is considering declaring itself the 2004 national champs, in 1993 too &... http://t.co/qxTlQecuLj
— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) <a href="

What "one hit wonder?" The fact they finished 5th or 6th in the SEC one year, or 7th or 8th the next year?

No, we don't need to play Aggy ever again. UT is always going to be the Flagship University of Texas, and A&M is always going to make the silly claim of there being two flagships.

They need to continue with their Aggieness outside the state of Texas, because inside the state we all know their cult behavior and stupidness.

Let em toss turds at others for a while, like a hundred year while.
