Let's have a serious discussion about two players: Edmond and Echols

STEVE EDMOND: To these eyes, Edmond played a heckuva game. He was in position to make tackles at most points in the game, was seen involved in gang tackles around the football field, and was in position to make an interception three separate times while picking one off. He did have one glaring mistake that I can remember where he was horribly out of position on TCUs only long run of the game, but the difference in his play is night and day when comparing to how poorly he played at the beginning of the season. It's amazing what a little coaching can do for a guy like him.

BRYSON ECHOLS: Is it just me or does it seem like every boneheaded play that results in a fifteen yard penalty come from this guy? I mean, obviously the coaches like what they see in him in practice and the fact that he's always around the ball is a positive, but these mistakes were very costly in the BYU loss and could once again prove to be issues in the future if he doesn't learn to finish plays the right way.

As an East Texas, I'm loving what I'm seeing from Edmond and Santos both. Edmond is playing so much better under Robinson than he did under Manny Dumbiaz that it's not even funny.

One thing I would like to know is why they line both Santos and Edmond up outside the DE's all the time and leave the middle of the field wide ass open.

Echols needs seasoning, and a lot of it. He will be fine.

Robinson must have pulled a miracle out of his ass with Edmond.

Amazing what a good coach can do. It's not just about drawing up a game plan, but to expand on the coaching they got in HS...Diaz was one dimensional, game planning (horribly) and that was it!

A month ago I was believing that it was time to move Edmond to DE and let him just concentrate on rushing the passer. Let him utilize his athletic ability against tackles. Then Diaz was fired and Robinson replaced him and now it's a 180 degree difference. Edmond is playing with instincts and just the way everyone expected him to. There are still issues that need to get fixed, but it's a miracle how far they've come with him in such a short period of time.

I still think Edmond needs to be down on the line. He's not a three down LB and has gotten some lucky breaks so far.

Robinson deserves a freaking raise.... that is all.

This!!!

Echols has something you cannot coach. Speed! I too believe he will be fine with more PT.

What McPhaul just said about Echols. He plays with his pants on fire. Now we just need to make sure he doesn't turn into a Robert Killebrew.

Edmond is still making those "scratch your head" kind of plays but he has improved. It's discouraging when the lineman are having to tell him where to be or one of the other linebackers. The kid has the size and great hands.
