Some amusing stuff coming out of this lawsuit, which has begun in Dallas
Attorney Michael Avenatti told jurors in his opening statement that “ego,†“greed†and “gross incompetence†led to the Super Bowl XLV scandal in Arlington.
The civil trial, which began Monday, started over the failure to complete about 1,300 temporary seats. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include seven fans who were given replacement seats, didn’t get replacement seats or had what they described as obstructed views.

But the first day did give some behind-the-scenes looks at what NFL officials were saying before and during the game.
“Honestly, it is a mess,†NFL ticketing official Fred Otto wrote in an email. “Lots of the temp seats are really bad and some cannot be installed — yet they are sold?â€
Frank Supovitz, who was the NFL Super Bowl czar at the time, referred to the problem in an email as a “debacle.â€

But Behrens said the disagreement is about how much the NFL should pay. He said some affected fans demanded reimbursement that had nothing to do with their missing seats.
Behrens said one plaintiff bought $800 worth of Western wear and another spent $1,000 on Western outfits. Both expected the NFL to reimburse those costs, he said.
In another case, one fan who spent $35,000 on a charter flight, hotel, hospitality and tickets was forced to move to different seats. Behrens said she requested reimbursement of the entire amount.

Two of the defendants were directed to a fenced-in area with about 2,000 angry fans unsure about what was happening. One video clip in the plaintiffs’ opening statement showed footage of fans chanting: “Jerry sucks!â€
