Late Night Hoops: Texas v. Stanford Game Thread

Free throws will be the death of us.
I read somewhere that Coach Smart told Javan Felix that he needed to shoot 500 shots a day in the off season and that sometimes he would be in the gym for two and sometimes three sessions on his own time to get those shots in.  So far this season the work seems to show in Javan's game ... NOW he needs to tell the team that they need to be putting up 500 free throws per day on their own ... who needs sleep?!  ;)

Now, I am talking to myself!  ;)

1st half thoughts:

This is Isaiah Taylor's team. Without him, the Longhorns are not the same. 16 points at the half tells you all you need to know. His presence on the floor opens up everyone else. A very guard heavy half for the Longhorns with 35 of the team's 41 points. Javan Felix has 0 points but considering he picked up 2 fouls before the first media timeout suggests that was the issue. If the Longhorns keep up the pressure, they will get a huge road win.
Early on in the first half Isaiah was slicing and dicing the Tree's defense.  Later in the half, when Isaiah was playing off of the ball against the Stanford zone ... things bogged down.  I think for us to get a win here, Isaiah needs to play with the ball in his hands, not off the ball.

I like the black unis.

Nice block by Ridley at 19:31 in the second half.
I don't, and yes, Ridley has been solid defensively in the paint. Stanford doesn't have an answer for him.

Cam and Ibeh playing together ... Ibeh with a short jumper for two .... Ibeh has been in a foul trouble funk most of this season so far.  We need him to come on as the season progresses ... we need to see the defender and shot blocker of old.

Nah, it's a concern. Shaka's VCU team last year ranked 296th in the country in FT percentage.

Big slam by Cam on a great feed by Lammert from the high post ... 59 -49 with 9:35 to go.

Nother nifty jumper by Isaiah ... this is probably the kiss of death for us, but I get the feeling that we can to put t his game away.  It just feels like we are playing against our own errors.  The trees will stay in the game because we let them.

Wow! 1 of 3 free trows for Texas ... 16 of 18 for the Trees.
