SignUp Now!Dang Ketch.. didn't know you posted over here.Seems to me that he was replying in kind. I'm not suggesting that his board is always forthcoming, but he didn't do anything the poster didn't ask for. Being accused of something you didn't do is reasonable grounds to get testy.
Valid points..It's off to a good start (although I know you all have been around awhile).
Don't be afraid to evolve. Continue to improve the environment (navigation, boards etc). Some sites have done some good things - don't hesitate to copy what works. I typically come to this one forum. How would you make it easier and more compelling for me to use more of the site? That's how you really get leverage. Don't ignore basketball (good job engaging shaunsters) or baseball (McComas is pretty good there and Ketch finally figured that out). If Plonsky gets the boot or reassigned jump on women's sports because that could be a great story if they get their $#@! together. Don't ever allow an echeese to get 80K+ posts while pissing all over every subject he doesn't like. Get a diversity of opinions, but keep the juvenile stuff to a minimum or give them their own forum.

Thank You! That is exactly the type of environment I'm striving to create. If you give people a chance for good conversations about a topic they care about I think they'll respond. I live in SF; there aren't a lot of people around here who care about my alma mater. Figure out what it is that causes good conversations and threads to go south; I'd be a heavy-handed moderator for anything that corrupts that and be laissez faire about everything else. Raise the civility level (and I too am capable of being a jerk, but if they're defending GDGD I think it's justified) and let the dumbasses know it's not acceptable. Katy had a heavy hand on HornFans; frankly it was ridiculous but some people probably need that kind of supervision.

Good post. I think its inappropriate for an owner of a site to tell someone to kiss their ass. Beam obviously hit a nerve but thats just wrong as I've seen people banned for less. I recently have some interesting email exchanges with Ketch, and they are certainly worried about the competition. I still subscribe there as its so active, and like a lot of the other topics there. In terms of inside info and what has been going on this year with any of this coaching situation, Saban, the future, etc they have had next to nothing on the subject compared to even some insider posters there. My biggest gripe with that site is the sloth and laziness that permeates the ownership/moderators. Ketch - who always identifies himself now as a journalist - can't spell and won't proofread. I know it's a small thing but it bugs the hell out of me. Suchomel may be the least informed person on a Texas website. Chip Brown is down to Plonsky as his last source and she will make him dance when it suits her. I actually think all of those guys are pretty miserable about what they do, although you would think the checks Ketch is cashing would make him pretty happy.
That site can be had. It's got the eyeballs but the content is second-rate. Virtually every single intelligent or informed poster has left. Orangebloods is closer to a tipping point than not. But Mack Brown's departure will probably mean some serious $$ for Ketchum in new signups so he's very money good for the next 6 months.
Scipio is the single best writer about Texas sports. Don't even know who's second, but it's well back. But BC is kind of an awkward place and I don't think it's going to get mass numbers. IT has the credibility and the guys running it have good reps; if they can figure it out that's your bet to take down OB IMO.
I wouldn't be so sure about Ketch's finances being flush right now.My biggest gripe with that site is the sloth and laziness that permeates the ownership/moderators. Cap'n Hook is not Ketch, nor is he affiliated with OB; Level 1. (For the record, the Cap'n doesn't even live in Texas.)Dang Ketch.. didn't know you posted over here.
Neil. Good to see you over here. I didn't know you signed up. This board has potential imo.I wouldn't be so sure about Ketch's finances being flush right now.

I'll agree with Cap'n here. Ketch pretty much fired right back at a shot taken at him and his site. I don't always agree w/Ketch, but in this instance, he is 100% within his rights to respond in kind. While I don't agree with the method of the response, he is correct. He did explain the Chris Jesse thing, on more than one occasion.
Beam & Coke has it wrong in this instance.
Regarding the mods at OB, I really like the ones I've met and enjoy their take on things, Such & McComas, and I also respect Chip's opinion, (have not met him,) even if it's not always in line with my own.
Regarding this site, I like it. I'm enjoying seeing some old familiar faces, and reading some new ones. The content so far is good and the future looks promising. The banter here is civil, which I also enjoy. I've recently become a member of three different UT sites not named OBs.
As was mentioned, success here should not come as a result of bashing OBs, or any other site for that matter. Provide the best information and UT coverage you can, foster an element of neighborhood friendliness and OT discussion mixed with Texas sports coverage, and this site will be just fine. I don't believe the secret to success is all that difficult, but being consistent is. In this age of instantaneous information, whether a story is posted here, on IT, 247, OBs or elsewhere it will be on the other sites fairly quickly. Breaking the story is not nearly as important, (at least to me,) as is the follow up discussion amongst the members.
My 2-cents.
This board has great potential, as I'm about done at 247. Becoming too much like Orangebloods before I left, but I guess that should be expected if Ketch is losing subs to 247 and IT.Neil. Good to see you over here. I didn't know you signed up. This board has potential imo.
Gotcha. Sarcasm meter is malfunctioning due to being in a board room for two days. My bad!Joey Wa,I knew Hook was not Ketch, I was poking fun... being sarcastic... I stated earlier that I must have missed OB outing Air Coryell as the first kid... And Ketch can post anything he wants over there.. it is his board. He is obviously not interested in keeping customers at this point. Otherwise, he would be more customer friendly.
Interesting. No idea how their arrangement works with yahoo, but I believe he's still the largest network. I imagine the coaching search will draw a lot. The prob is their info is stale and often behind. Does anyone really read the war room much anymore or expect it to have humidor type info in it anymore? At one time they did. They dont seem to be adding any new features or doing things to attract people. Pretty much on cruise control. They don't seem to care about losing posters either. So many have left, and ketch wont even address it, and believe me people tried. I think there was even a meeting with him at a happy hour or some function once. I've been there for like a decade, and ketch didn't give a damn if I left or stayed.I wouldn't be so sure about Ketch's finances being flush right now.
I tried to set Ketch up with Mario Mendias, the founder of My Fit Foods, when Mario was looking to expand into Austin. Mario and I both sent Ketch emails and never heard a word back, but that was 5-6 years ago. About 16-18 months ago I heard that Ketch was struggling to pay his mortgage, but I'm not sure about that now. I really think the radio gig made him neglect OB's to the point where 247 and IT could get a foot hold.Interesting. You can email me and I guarantee I will respond if you want to set up something for us with Mario Mendias. We would love to help him and vice versa. Between the site and my podcast we could both do good..I tried to set Ketch up with Mario Mendias, the founder of My Fit Foods, when Mario was looking to expand into Austin. This is the last I heard on the subject from a mod.. come to an event and we can talk there.I personally asked the AirCoryell question on OB's not six months ago. Ketch directly responded by saying that I should come to a happy hour event sometime to get the answer. Others then piped in and said it was Chris Jesse / that's not the same thing as coming from one of the mods directly.
Thanks Jeff, but I didn't take offense. I may not have the thickest skin in the world, but it takes a lot to get me pissed, and that reply was nowhere close to doing that.Gotcha. Sarcasm meter is malfunctioning due to being in a board room for two days. My bad!![]()
