He says he's hearing Scott frost and mazzone are candidates. He also said that some of the BMDs that were against the hire are behind it now and they have raised funds (one increased his donation) to get the best assistants. Red and strong will talk today and he expects it will all get smoothed out then. Interestingly he said that strong was korn/ferry's top recommendation.

Scott Frost is in essence, the Nick Saban of Offensive Coordinators. I'm not getting my hopes up on him coaching in Austin next season.

I don't either, but that would be a huge coup if it could be done

Please elaborate?

Give me Scott Frost -- created the toughness in Oregon and the downfield blocking within their receiving corp that makes them a threat to score anywhere on the field, not to mention Helfrich face him the play calling duties this year. Commitment to accountability and selfless football fits right into what CS wants to do. And oh yeah, he did a decent job with Mariota in respect to player development. The kids love the system and love to watch Oregon, could have the Oregon system and all it's glory with the Texas brand and our own variation tailored to our personnel. I'd love to hear what everyone thinks though.

He's got everything he could want in Oregon already. The money is there, the talent is there and opportunities are there. Frost isn't in a position where he needs to take his talents and prove he can do them at a better school before getting a Head Coaching gig. He's going to go from being the Oregon Offensive Coordinator to being the Head Coach at a decent school with another two years of consistent effort. If Pelini wouldn't have gotten Nebraska turned around this season, I think Frost would have been coaching them next year. And I think Frost knows that too.

Noel Mazzone would be good hire, Arizona State and now UCLA. My concern with Frost would be if we only had him for one year with the possibility the Nebraska job would open next year.

Someone posted couple of weeks ago that Strong was the top choice of the search firm that's why Vegas had Strong as the betting favorite.

I would like to be a fly on the wall for this conversation.

Are any of the above free to sign or under contract? That does make a difference.

Frost is w the Ducks.

Wyatt and Porter are sticking around. Can't really see Frost leaving, I'd love it, but not likely. Mazzone is interesting, if you're going to kick the tires on Frost you might as well do the same w Herman.

Maybe, maybe not. It could be a high stakes poker game and the one who blinks first loses. Or will Red back down and apologize for his comments? I imagine that would be a strange situation for him.

How do we know Frost is not the product of Helfrich?
Frost is consider a rising star and future HC, probably Nebraska. If we could get him as OC with a two year commitment that would be a hire I would be excited about.

Tom Herman is my personal favorite. He's literally a genius (Mensa member) and has done wonders with Braxton Miller. He's a former Texas GA and wants badly to be back in Texas.
