John O'Korn to Texas?

Has John O'Korn decided to transfer to Texas? (USATSI)
Say this for Jameis Winston: he certainly knows a thing or two about keeping his name in the headlines.

You might not expect Winston's Instagram account to be a source of breaking college football news, but photos posted by Winston from a visit to Houston's Lakewood Churchincluded a caption that stated matter-of-factly that former Houston quarterback John O'Korn will transfer to Texas.

A sophomore who threw for 28 touchdowns and more than 3000 yards as a freshman, O'Korn elected to transfer after a difficult 2014 season and the Cougars replacing former coach Tony Levine with Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman. A Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native, he had reportedly been considering transfers to either Florida or Texasamong other programs.

Well, I can't find anywhere else confirming this so...weird. I know guys can run their mouth sometimes, but that's a pretty big matzah ball to put out there.

Am I the only one who does like the idea of O'Korn coming over? I'm not saying he'll start next season. But he's competition. He had an incredible freshman year. He suffered from a poor start and a ridiculous amount of anticipation/excitement for his backup from the fans and coaches. O'Korn wasn't given a chance to right the ship last year. If he can play at the level he did his freshman year, you're talking about a QB who could potentially win All Conference.  I'm not saying this is a JT Barrett or Braxton Miller kind of transfer. And no I don't think there should be a ton of excitement revolved around his potential transfer. But I do think the kid is getting a lot of slack that may be undeserving.

I honestly couldn't say that Swoopes would beat O'Korn in the Spring. Heard likely would. Who is Texas going to bring in this year that will start in 2015 if they don't bring in O'Korn?

I didn't think you could transfer, unless a hardship transfer, and gain immediate eligibility to compete. I thought transfers, other than NCAA approved hardship or graduate transfers, had to sit out a year.

Holtz, wait was he a senior! Heard should win the job in my opinion but O'Korn has the 1+ yrs of on field experience. One good year, one not so good; could regain his form who knows? The game experience is important, he is used to being under fire and making decisions on the field (good/bad decisions? I haven't seen him play lately to analyze that question). UH has had a good run of productive QBs, but the question is are they a product of the system or not? Either way I guess you have to be smart enough to run a specific system offense to have good results. Goes back to tailoring your game plan and offense to your talent at hand. Look at the run/pass mix with Ohio St third stringer, and second stringer Barrett for that matter. The philosophy worked with the players' strengths. I hope Heards positives are emphasized in the offense next season.

I watched O'Korn play both this season and last.  He was tremendous as a true freshman, very impressive, especially for a guy starting in college just a few months past his prom.  Gutsy and fearless.  Saw the field well.  Patient.  Understood the scheme.  Anticipated receiver breaks well, which is a key to that offense working.  

But he came unglued this season.  Became tentative (overthinking after all the extra coaching?).  Lost his touch.  Got sacked alot.  Threw a ton of picks, really awful ones.  It was easy to see he lost his confidence.  I am not sure what the deal was, but it was not injury.  He should have improved but instead he regressed horribly.  He left the coach no choice but to bench him.  If your choice is O'Korn or Swoopes then you are probably in deep trouble.

Lastly, I think that the rule you guys discussed above about becoming eligible right away due to a coaching change was the special deal for the Penn State players.  I think it was a specific waiver just for them that would not apply to O'Korn.

i didn't think he'd be eligible this year either which makes all of this kinda moot doesn't it?

Pretty much... I'd forgotten the coaching change was a one-time pass for the Penn State situation, and unless there's some big news out of Cougar High yet to be reported that won't change. 

I did read somewhere, though, that Strong tried to recruit O'Korn out of high school. If that is true, then maybe he's just a guy that Strong likes and is willing to wait for.

Just read on a yahoo sports article that O'Korn has already transferred to Texas and is immediately eligible? Sounds like they haven't done their research, or I am completely out of the loop. That article describes schools that could use transfer QBs gohlsom and miller.
