Joe Klatt weighs in on Shawn Watson

It is often interesting to compare the rants of the internet couch potatoes to the observations of real football people. . . 

Seems Mr Klatt has a much higher opinion of Coach Watson (who is hitting home run after home run recruiting wise) than some of our vaunted "experts" .. . 

Being interviewed at B12 Media Days and asked specifically about Watson (OC during Klatt's days at CU).  Said Watson was the best teacher of football he's every been around.  That included any level, HS, college or NFL, and being a coache's son all his life.  Said he was particularly adept at gameplanning around the strengths of his personnel.  Made a real point that Watson loves to run the ball and felt that would bode well for Ash.  Real commitment to running the ball with a great stable of backs using play action to protect Ash and give him the best chance to succeed.

Nice story!  Thanks for posting it, cheese.  Of course, you can find all kinds of good stories about coaches on the interwebz ... but, I tell ya, I just get a feeling that we are going to be just fine with coach Watson.

I have to admit is is hard to keep up with who stands where on these significant issues of the day!  Maybe we should have colored smoke venting from the north side of the Tower color coded to indicate where we stand, or alternating puffs of different colored smoke to indicate our ambivalence.  Besides, I thought it was three years and out ... or was it three decades?

Other than all of that, winky smilies sure do make the comprehension easier on my poor pea brain which today is rolling around like a BB in a box car!

He has Gentry, #9 QB in the nation, in house and working to recruit for us with a strong chance of landing dual Threat/Athlete Kai Locksley, #12 dual threat nationally

For 2016 these kids where in camp:

QB Brennen Wooten (Marble Falls)  LSR #32

QB Logan Bonner (Rowlett)  LSR #25 and currently #1 QB in the state

QB Shea Patterson (Shreveport, La./Calvary Baptist)   #1 QB in the nation?  Certainly Top 10

QB Shane Buechele (Arlington Lamar) 

QB Dillon Sterling-Cole (Spring Westfield) LSR #26

QB Jalen Hurts (Channelview)  LSR #23

QB Neiko Hollins (Missouri City/Hightower)

Not sure about giving him that much credit with Heard but certainly can credit him as far as Gentry.

Also not sure that a "strong chance of landing someone" and "having kids in camp" are hitting home runs. And lots of kids LOVE TEXAS.

Getting "commits" is a home run. Until you get commits it's all doubles and triples.

This is not about dogging Watson in any way but we simply won't know if he has hit home run after home run until he get more commits and gets them on the dotted line come signing day. I do enjoy reading anything you post and I do appreciate the response/answer as I really was asking a honest and simple question. Of course you could have just responded/answered without the smart ass "Seriously" and "OK maybe you are" comments.

We did not land every kid that committed to Mack so to not credit Watson/Strong with keeping the single most important kid in the class is just silly.

Heard had PLENTY of offers and lots of teams trying to "steal" him after Mack left. . .tOSU  LSU. . .Baylor. . .

Gentry is a home run. . . 

Getting top instate and out of state 2016 and beyond kids to come to camp, to put TEXAS high is damn sure more plus than minus. . . 

I get it. . . Watson sucks as an OC. . . he was a bad hire. . .yada yada yada .. . . ..except the recruits seem to be telling a different story. .

PS, keep in mind the narrative has been that we are trailing aggie. . .we have no recruiting momentum . .. top flight players are not interested in playing for this boring offense. . . . . . .
