I wasn't in favor of Texas looking at him but just heard on fox sports he's going to interview for at least two nfl head jobs

Not Texas good though

I will be honest I did not research him enough to have a true opinion. Was starting to as his name got mentioned more and more. He could end up being a really good hire. He also might be a better fit in the NFL as well.

Why the hell would anyone not be interested in Franklin? He has done wonders at Vanderbilt and is a star in the making.
Exactly. I like the Strong hire but I'm concerned about Stoops going to NFL and Franklin going to Norman. That's how good I think he is.

With all due respect, Strong has a much more accomplished coaching record than Franklin.

i don't think Franklin is better than Strong. I was saying that he's a great coach and I wouldn't want him in Norman. Then again, it's better to have that a meaningful game so bring it on!! :)

Non-starter< Franklin was not in on this
They happened before Franklin was at Vanderbilt? If so, never mind my post. How about his team giving up 24 points to UH in the 3Q today blowing a 24 point lead?

Definitely happened on his watch. I am a Vandy alum and was on campus during his first year. I somewhat involved with the football team there. Franklin is an A+ culture and media guy. He was fantastic at getting the students involved, which was always a problem at Vandy. In that aspect, he is a Mack Brown redux-great CEO type coach.

He also is a very strong talent evaluator; I was privy to a conversation with him and an assistant when they were reviewing film of connor brewer. Franklin shut off the tape after two minutes, shook his head, and said "that kid will never play a down at UT."

However, Franklin is all about Franklin IMO. I wouldn't be surprised that all these "interviews" that he's supposedly getting from NFL teams are rumors he's spreading to pump up his image. Overall, I'm very happy with the Strong choice over Franklin.

Same thinking applies to Saban losing to OU, and Briles losing to FCU.

I am happy with Strong if it actually happens, just don't get the strong dislike of Franklin.

He's beaten 3 teams who finished with a better than .500 record during his time at Vanderbilt. They've definitely improved, but a lot of what he's doing is smoke and mirrors IMO.

Scipio from Barking Carnival has written a couple of pieces on Franklin. From the last one:

"While I have no doubt that his ceiling could be extraordinary - a possible 20 year hire coaching legend - in my estimation, there is no candidate with a greater chance for self-implosion.

Franklin has an enormous amount of self-confidence combined with mediocre offensive acumen and a tendency towards extreme micromanagement. That combo is a red flag at Texas. If he can't sublimate some of the attributes that serve him so well as the pesky underdog, he'll undermine the natural advantages of the program. An inability to delegate to elite assistants, hubris, and a stubborn refusal to adapt his offense past the "let's hope the opponent makes a mistake" Vanderbilt formula might mean a very ugly stay in Austin. If that doesn't happen, my guess is that he'd probably be a home run."

Per Scipio - low floor, high ceiling.

It appears that he did interview with the Texans (who went with Bill O'Brien of PSU instead) --

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Yesterday, McNair said there were candidates we didn't know about who had interviewed. Per <a href="https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter">@adamschefter</a> Vandy coach James Franklin was one.</p>— Tania Ganguli (@taniaganguli) <a href="

She is "ESPN NFL Nation reporter" - used to work for the Chron covering Texans.
