It's done

Its great that we have a new regime and will be patient but you can't tell me they maximized their resources and got he best availabile assistants. I know the talent factor is huge but man it looks like they settled in a lot of areas.
Where did they settle? Who was available, that wanted to come, that we didn't maximize our resources?

I really don't look at it that way. I think CS got who he wanted. Let's hope he is right.

Wickline is one of the best OL coaches in college football. That doesn't mean he will be a good coordinator. Maybe he will, maybe he won't but Gundy passed over him a couple of times.

Akina was a good DB coach but bad coordinator.

Everyone on this board said we couldn't afford to take a coordinator and make him HC every time Morris name came up. How is this any different. We have no damn clue if Wickline can be a good coordinator. If he fails it will set the program back.

Strong has handed opposing schools a great negative recruiting narrative. They will tell kids why take a chance on Wickline as coordinator when you can play for us because we have proven we have done it, there is no guesswork.

Too many proven coordinators out there to take this risk. And it didn't have to be big time name OC, only that they have proven they can do it. I hate on the job training at that level.

A&M has an elite oline the last 3 years.
just sayin
Sherman couldn't coach. That O-line 2 years ago got Manzeil a Heisman. Last year's O-line wasn't that great. They lost 4 games. Just saying.

My only fear is that our brand of football will not be exciting to the kids compared to Baylor, A&M, Oregon. We are going to need to win and win early. If we do that then yeah I think he will be successful. But he has to win early. You aren't going to excite kids having a boring offense and no wins.
And we know it's going to be boring, how? I keep hearing this and I look at what Les did the last 4 years at MS...set all-time passing and offense records, etc., Watson at UL consistently had their offenses in the top 30 or so nationally and OSU's offense needs no introduction of which Wickline had significant influence. I just don't get why many of you are so convinced these guys won't implement an up-tempo offense that still can run downhill when we have to. I guess we are all about to find out, huh?

mesohomy, don't see your point. Texas is a bigger fish in a much bigger pool. coaching at TEXAS is still considered one of the top 5 jobs in the country and Texas is probably a little better known for it's football than UL, just saying

Everyone loves a ragtag group of misfits coming together to overcome long odds. It's a classic hollywood narrative which we've each seen at least 20 different versions of (The Sandlot, The Mighty Ducks, Slapshot, The Bad News Bears, Major League, The Replacements, Cool Runnings, The Longest Yard etc, etc)

When Vanderbilt and Louisville put together scrappy teams that punch greater than their weight class, everyone is understandably impressed and excited. When Texas does it, I think the overwhelming impression on people will be: "Why the hell did Texas have to pull together a ragtag group of misfits?".

I can't wait for the coming season and I'll live and die with my horns. But I still can't help feeling like I'm cheering for the Jamaican bobsled team, when we should be the US Olympic basketball team.

Yes, that's a huge exaggeration, but I just can't totally shake the feeling.

if Aggy had a great defense to go with that the last 2 years they may have played for a national title

That brand of football doesn't seem to be hindering Alabama.

And they had a highly prolific offense. We score those kind of points with a Texas defense, we are going to do just fine.

Things are never as good as they seem, nor as bad as they seem! The truth lies somewhere in the middle. The Texas program is in capable hands, and all I want to see on the field is a team that plays hard from start to finish. A team that is disciplined and sound in all phases of the game. Football games will always be won in the trenches, and I don't think anyone can argue about the talent of the coaches for the DL & OL. Can't wait til the season kicks off! Hook 'em!
