It’s finally game week. Anxious to see the Horns vs a pass happy CSU. Openers can be “interesting “ sometimes, as evidenced by the 3 games yesterday.
What story lines do you guys see as we head into the opener?

I'm wondering about the defensive line. I know the DT's aren't Murphy and Sweat, but can they fill the gaps and bring pressure up the middle? Can the Edges wreak havoc on a pass happy G5 team?

Im wondering about our overall defense. Our DB's were toast in the spring game.
And also our DL

The DL no longer concerns me. We have some quality and some depth at DT and exceptional talent at DE.

If we can get the type of pass rush that I think we can generate, our secondary is going to have a very nice year.

I am curious to see how Cam Williams holds up at RT.

Hopefully PK will play more press coverage to give time for the pass rush. Playing 10 yards off the ball negates that strength. Also, Williams and Makuba are strong enough on the backend where you don't need to protect them.

Also want to see the Horns utilize Niblack and Helm a little more. I know they're not Sanders, but they can be an asset.

I want to see just how improved Quinn is. Is he really a Heisman candidate? He's got new receivers so it should be interesting. I want to see our running back rotation too.

Defense is always a concern whether it's the DBs or DL.

Injuries another concern. If we get a nice lead, I'd like to see the backups. A long season, just got longer (I hope).

I want to see the pressure our front 7 gets on the qb.

This team has been hyped so much since the summer. I hope we arent' all hype and no substance.

Let's go

I’m with most of you as far as the defense goes. But what I have always wanted to see is our cornerbacks and nickel contest the line of scrimmage and not let receivers off of it for a second or two. If we can do that, with our edge guys, we can get to the qb most of the time. Then coverage becomes much easier and turnovers will happen.

I have not seen Trey Moores name called very much. Kind of disappointing.
On the other hand, Collins looks really good.
Makumba looks like an all American
Trey Moore seems to be used in pass rush situations primarily. He absolutely pancaked Michigans RT this weekend on his way to the QB.

So far, our pass rush has actually been quite good, just not getting sacks. But there are very few plays where QBs are able to hold onto the ball for a long time. Passes are being forced to come out fast and our DBs are playing tight, aggressive coverage.

I was wondering how the defensive line by committee would shake out. So far, they have held up well. It's a long season and the more quality depth you have the better. Texas is a team with quality depth everywhere! Only RB may be a little thin due to injury but the guys we do have I like a lot.
