Introducing the Houston Regional

Nice work Matt,

After doing some research, Rice could very well save Blake Fox for the winner of the Texas/TexasA&M game..

My week is panning out nicely.

Thursday: Pick up briskets to start smoking for Saturday's Going-Away party for my buddy PDXHorn

Friday: Pick up keg of Shiner Bock, tap keg, make sure beer is fit to drink for party, smoke brisket, watch Horns kick some aggy ass

Saturday: Finish smoking brisket, host party, watch CWS and Texas beat Rice.

:D

Will be interesting to see our pitching rotation. I would guess Peters starts game one.
Peters is better suited to pitch against Rice. They have quite a few LH hitters in their lineup and have had trouble hitting lefties this season. My bet is Nathan starts against aggy.

We will see. I don't think Augie starts Thornhill in game one but I could be wrong.

One major factor in this regional. A&M is not a good team away from Blue Bell.

A&M home record 24-12
A&M away/neutral record 9-12. If I counted correctly 5 of their wins were against teams that didn't make the tournament.

Confirmed that Thornhill will be on the bump for Friday's game v aggy.

Thornhill is easily the smart choice.

Mengden has thrown more IP than any other A&M starter, so he's not a surprise pick either. He's not a tall/big guy, but is a power right-hander. Throws a 4-seamer that can go mid-90's, but the harder he throws it, the less movement he gets. He's also got a good slider.

It'll be crucial for the Horns to work advantageous counts against Mengden. That would limit his effectiveness as a strikeout guy (which also mean Texas batters aren't guessing at pitches and behind in counts). He's also prone to some control problems - as in, he's hit & walked more batters than any other Aggie pitcher.

I do not usually follow baseball, but I found this and I thought I would leave it here ...

Word is that Dillon Peters is out for the season. If you recall, he left the game earlier than expected last week, precautionary it was called.

Today there are reports that he's done for the season due to some pain/soreness in his elbow. Looks like we may see more of Duke/Cooper in CWS.

Spent some time at Rice today. They are pissed, Pissed, PISSED that this has become all about UT vs aggy when they are the host team. For some dang reason most that I spoke to blamed UT! What!?!?

Thanks NCAA, we've had a good relationship with Rice, especially when it comes to a baseball rivalry and now you drop the aggy turd in our UT /Rice Punchbowl.

For some reason they all said it will give them extra incentive. Whatever. As they needed extra incentive. They're the host team. I would have thought they would want and expect to win due to that fact.

No, on many levels I think this is the NCAA snubbing their noses at UT and saying " there, now you have to play them." SEC sEC SEC

The mad owl doesn't worry me too much.  Boo-freaking-hoo.  You're hosting a team that took 2/3 from you in Texas.  Give it a rest.

Regarding Peters:
