I got him a Jackie Robinson rookie card. It's his favorite athlete because he was a Bruin. The card itself is in pretty bad shape. PSA DNA graded 3.5. It was the cheapest rookie card I could afford.

Have you checked out grabagun.com? They have a layaway plan and a shoot now pay later plan. I haven't tried either yet but I am considering getting the 1911 I want from them.

Just depends on who you like really. Baseball rookies are going to be the most common cards just out of sheer production.
