Holmes

Now it's official that Smart is out 3 games, I might rest Holmes Tuesday night.
I would if Holmes isn't 100 percent. Oklahoma State lost their best player and really only have 5 guys that have played in the rotation all year.

Sources close to UT's Jonathan Holmes tell me he has "inflamed cartilage and that he should be alright". MRI did not show anything serious.

That is how you get beat; you can never assume a victory. If he is ok, he should play and rest if/when the game is out of reach for OSU. We can struggle to score against teams with depleted rosters. See the TCU game for example.

Jon Holmes will be a game-time decision tomorrow, Barnes says. Not a season-ending deal. Per Mike Finger

I don't think Holmes will play Tuesday and I don't think he should. I think Texas can still win Tuesday without Holmes, due to the Smart suspension. Regardless, Holmes is a critical piece to this season. Even if we lose without Holmes, 1 game isn't worth sacrificing the entire season.

The reasons I think we can win without Holmes on Tuesday, to kind of respond to the above poster.

1-OSU's offense runs through Smart. They don't have another point guard on their team (since they kicked their back up point guard off the team). Forte is a shooting guard, he's not really a ball handler. The Smart loss is a much bigger loss for OSU in comparison with a Holmes loss. The OSU offense feeds off Smart making plays with ball in his hands.

2-OSU is down to essentially 5 players because of injury and suspensions. Go look at the minutes per game. Due to the new foul rules OSU will have to play players that haven't seen minutes all year.

3-Lammert can play the Holmes role. It's a downgrade at the position, but we have somebody that can at least fill the void.

4-Texas has a huge size advantage. OSU is essentially a team full of shooting guards with one PF, ever since their starting center was injured. Even without Holmes I don't know how OSU will match up with Ridley, Ibeh and Lammert.

5-The TCU and OSU games are completely different. We are at home, which is huge in conference play. Also, I don't think Texas will be underestimating a ranked team like they did with TCU.

Iowa State is losing by 12 in the first half to WV. Not easy to win games on the road in this conference. WV has really improved and that game Saturday will not be nearly as easy as I once thought.

The "above poster" coached for a living for a time. Games are not played on paper and are not won by logical analysis.

Not going to lie I always thought ACL injuries were more on the less painful spectrum of injuries. Guess that's just a rumor, because you are correct. Based what I found on Google if Holmes suffered an ACL injury he should have been in more pain and probably wouldn't have been able to put weight on it. I'm no doctor though, matter of fact I have a hard enough time taking Tylenol.
This is just a complete guess but I think Holmes probably just sprained something and there's no tear. Still that will probably force him to miss a couple games. Let's hope I'm right though, because a tear would be devastating.
Case by case... It all depends on how it happens. I tore my ACL playing soccer and it didn't hurt much at all and felt funny but I still got right back up and tried to run it off. Wasn't bad, but trying to kick a ball, I could feel there was something missing in there.

That is why I said there "often" is no pain, not "always" is no pain. My pitcher had your experience. He got up immediately and thought he was fine. When he fell down making his next pitch, he came out, but there was no pain. His ACL was torn completely through.
