Hermann needs to go

The Saban fiasco had nothing to do with the boosters, they did act in their own interest but the table was set and Saban was on board. Mack derailed the hire. Saban and Mack are friends or at least have respect for each other. Saban would not take the job until Mack resigned. Mack knew the plan and he refused to resign. Saban had a new contract offer from Bama but hadn’t signed off yet. He stayed out of the office “recruiting” to give the Texas situation time to play out. Once he realized Mack wasn’t going to resign and he couldn’t put Bama off any longer he signed the new contract. He signed on December 13, 2013 and on December 14, 2013 Mack announced he was resigning. Mack was understandably pissed at the way it was all handled but end the end he got a little retribution at the expense of the program. The better story is what the boosters went through just to get Mack at the point of resignation but that’s a discussion for another time.
Hey, we've got time to hear what the boosters went through just to get Mack at the point of resignation.

No, you can't technically "hire" UM until WTH is fired. But, you can reach an agreement in principle verbally. Hopefully, the BMDs and CDC are on the same page this go 'round.

"We got played by Saban's agent". How do you know that? Were you privy to the conversations?
Well let’s see.  The donors were telling that it was as good as done.  Then within a week Alabama announces Saban’s raise and extension.  Somebody got played.

It wasn't Saban's agent that kept Saban from coming to UT. It was Mack Brown.

Former Texas regent offers more proof Nick Saban was really headed for Austin

The donors should’ve kept their mouths shut on the matter then IF that’s true.  You can’t make certain announcements til after others are made.  They’re gonna screw the urban meyer possibility up too

They should’ve fired Mack if that were the case.  Waiting on him to get the idea was dumb.  If Saban was on board, he’d have waited a few more days

I never heard what the boosters went thru to get Mack to resign....please tell
Lol, yea, I’d love to hear it too.  Lots of insiders here.

Texas ended up with shit in their face because Saban’s agent played the Texas donors.  That was as plain as day looking at the situation.  They’re going to cost the program a chance to hire UM if they don’t let Herman go first.  Sometimes you’ve gotta learn when to keep a secret.

You're just making assumptions about how UT "got played". Only thing I agree with in your conjecture is UT should've gone ahead and fired Mack. But, regrettably, Powers didn't have the stones.

DeLoss was never going to fire Mack. He won a National championship here and pulled us up when we were down with Mackovic and Mack is one hell of a nice guy so they didn’t want to fire him. The trouble is Mack really changed after that loss to Bama in the championship game. He quit recruiting nearly as well and many other things. If he would have left a year or so after that he would have had something named after him. The trouble is he held on for a lot longer and we started severely declining. I don’t know if he didn’t want to leave the money or his ego or what but he wouldn’t leave and DeLoss wouldn’t fire him. Him hanging on and then a Charlie Strong hire set us back a decade when other teams were advancing forward. I thought Herman might be it but I don’t think so. All this is why most of you have heard me say this has gone on so long that WE NEED A FOR SURE THING OR DAMN CLOSE TO IT. No more young up and comers because those kind don’t work out here. We’ll see pretty soon I guess

And saying Saban was headed to Austin is nothing but rumors from people who got played.

Yea Powers it was. Sorry. He was a new guy coming in and DeLoss still had influence so no they weren’t going to fire him

Still doesn’t change the fact that Saban rolled it into a raise/extension

Oh absolutely he did. Every top coach usually gets a raise when the Texas job comes open.

What’s odd is that there were ALOT of people that wanted Mack to stay and keep coaching here. Great guy but he stayed way too long and screwed us. I don’t remember exactly but we were something like 36-32 after that loss in the championship game. Mack’s time could have been alot worse. I know Vince Young pulled a bunch of games out nearly single handily when we were getting the crap kicked out of us. That championship season we would have lost 3 or 4 games if Vince hadn’t pulled a miracle. Mack teams never started fast and could get behind quick. I still think Mack was a great recruiter when he wanted to be but not a great coach.

Your no insider that's for sure. It was Mack Brown not Saban's agent. You don't know what your talking about.

Texas regent says Nick Saban wanted to coach Longhorns

There was plenty of talk about Bijan getting only twelve carries against West Virginia. Herman took care of that at his press conference on Monday. He said he checked all the four and five star freshman running backs and Bijan has the most carries and the most yards. He went to the trouble to check that stat and announce it to give the impression that Bijan is getting plenty of carries.

That doesn't change the fact that Bijan was the only weapon that UT had and he only had twelve carries. I would think Herman would have more important things to do to get ready against Iowa State.

I never claimed to be an insider.  Just stating what appeared to happen in my opinion.

If you say so, aggy
Lol, not an aggy. So because I don’t take everything I read on messsges boards about the Texas program as gospel truth, I’m an aggy?  Lol. Come on dude. If Saban wanted to be the Texas coach he’d be the Texas coach now for several years.  Did he entertain the idea?  Sure, he prolly did, but I think he was happy enough where he was to finish his career out at Alabama.

This is what happened. Now your a insider. :)

“Mack Brown turned bright red. Steam started coming out of his ears, and he said, ‘That guy is not coming here to win a national championship with my players.’ I said, ‘Mack, I’m glad to see you have that passion. I didn’t think you had that passion left.”

Had Texas fired him that possibly could’ve happened.
