First let me ask what do you think Texas's potential record could be next year given a great coach?

Second if we are not playing for a title, which I think it will take atleast two years of attitude and coaching change. Then why not let heard start right away, he is a proven winner and yes he will make mistakes but just think about what he will gain going into year two and how much closer texas would be playing for a big 12 title and potential chance at a natty.

I am no expert but I believe in experience over watching from the sideline.

He needs to sit and watch for a year. Under a new regime you begin to aim for something special again in 2015. Let him learn slowly.

Urban Meyers turn around at ohio state, makes it not impossible. We do have the talent, but not a leader at qb to take us there.

You've also got to consider Urban was playing with a loaded deck when he got there. Turmoil took that teams record so low in the interim season, not talent. 2014 Texas would have a definite talent gap compared to 2012 Ohio State.

I agree, just curious on other thoughts, we will be behind at qb and receiver for sure next year. any thoughts on who will be the next mike davis for us

I don't know how you can sit Heard when he will be unmistakably the best QB we have when he arrives.

I'm not as bothered by playing him as a frosh because IMO, Heard is cut from a different cloth. He's the type of guy who's going to thrive when you put him in adverse situations. He finds a way. He's more mature than most his age.

Great point, why not let him go out there and see what he can do, we did that with ash he started as a true freshman correct

Yes, but I don't think anyone was saying he was ready for prime time then.

Heard's special.

Because I'm not ready to concede shit next year. If we can get a good JUCO QB or a Sr transfer, we have a dent chance to compete for the B12 championship with the right coach. We were close this year but, did not have the QB play needed.

Heard will need to bulk up or he will get killed. He NEEDS a year in a college S & C program.

If we get a good JUCO QB, then the idea of redshirting Heard becomes more realistic, IMO.

If not, then I say Heard is taking first team snaps by Day 3 next fall.

Heard needs to RS.

Hopefully Ash can play or we can get a decent transfer in here.

Playing Heard should be an absolute last resort.

mcphaul you are always one of the smartest guys in the room, I to think with the right coach we could be right back in the hunt. Year two I think we will have the best shot, just my opinion.

look what auburn did with there juco transfer in year one, anyone remember cam newton.

obviously im not saying there is that caliber player out there, but if we don't land that type of player. And all we have is ash, swoopes and heard, well my choice is heard.

I'm with you McPhaul but what about Ash? He seems pretty confident about coming back but I don't think he lasts if he does. Every concussion you sustain makes the next one that much worse.

The first domino will be the coach, the second will be offensive coord, the third qbs coach. All that will play into who starts next year, Ive read heard will be graduating early and coming in for spring this year. If he is what everyone says, which I did witness last night while he beat a great Brennon defense, then maybe he quickly becomes number 2 at texas.

No, Heard will NOT be an early enrollee. It did not work out.

Why someone wants to throw this kid to the wolves is beyond me. Let him redshirt if possible. Let him learn the offense, get stronger, get better prepared. If he comes out and destroys it in fall camp then he has proven himself to be ready, but for God's sake dont push him. Dont turn him into another guy who flames out or twists in the wind for two years because he didnt get the proper prep work.

I don't care anything pushing him. I just say you play the best QB you have, period. And I think that's going to be Heard.

I don't think Ash plays another down of football.

If Heard is who I think he is, he'll only be here three years anyway.
