Heard Heads to Austin

Nice.

He may be our starter.  Not ideal, but that's the way it looks as of today.

Juan, why do you say that? Has Ash had another setback?
Of course we all hope Ash is healthy all season.

I think he is top 10 in the country if that happens.

The QBRs I posted in the past support this opinion

But what are the odds of him staying healthy all year?

I have read differing accounts of recovery from a Jones fracture

Does anyone here know if he got the titanium screw inserted?

Further, his type of Jones fracture "has a 25% chance of not healing in the ideal timeframe" for football season purposes.

Plus, there are the lingering concussion concerns.

So, this is what I was thinking about when I wrote that^

I've long said this guy could end up being our starter this year. He's not your typical HS QB coming to the big time. He is big time coming to Texas.

I know a lot of you want him to shirt and I understand that. In a perfect world, I do, too. But as Juan points out, confidence in Ash staying healthy or even being ready is just not there. I think Texas HAS to approach the season as if they know Ash won't last or won't be ready.

Heard is the real deal, a once in every (insert whatever time period) QB that has the skills and maturity already to win. We would not be throwing him to the wolves. We'd be giving him what he wants.

looks like Heard will be lucky No. 13

LOL!  Ian is totally enamored with Heard.  In his mind, he has already anointed Heard as the starter.  Anointing him as the starter for the University of Texas is, well, silly.

Put it this way, if we have to start a freshman, it will prove  just how desperate we are at QB and we will have no chance of winning anything.  God help us is we have to even play Heard this year. I am excited about Heards potential and, right now, potential is all he has.  We have learned nothing if we don't RS him this year.

Note how little Ian talks about Ash and he doesn't mention Swoopes at all.  I hope he listened to Strong today when he announced Swoopes is #2 and Heard #3.

That's why Strong is a football coach and Ian isn't.
