The King of Country Music deserves his own thread. I'll open with a couple of what I think are in his top 5:

That song has been dropping panties around the world since 1994

Was my mothers favorite song. Played it at her funeral all those years ago.

I'll play along:

5. Let's Fall to pieces Together

4. Run

3. Does Ft. Worth Ever Cross Your Mind

2. Chill of an Early Fall

1. Troubadour

I Can Still Make Cheyenne

Love Without End, Amen

The Seashores of Old Mexico

Marina Del Rey

They are all good. If I had to pick just one artist to listen to for the rest of my life it would be Strait.

Love ole George - known him since San Marcos / Wimberley n the late 70s. He's done pretty well for himself, and deserves it all. Cool dude. Still remember him playing solo acoustic at a party off RR 12 out near Dripping Springs one night. He could have had every girl at the party that night, and there were a lot there. It was the usual ole kind of hippie party with Hendrix blaring out of the hosts stereo. Everybody was loaded and laughing, then George started playing the guy's guitar out on the porch. Within 30 minutes, the stereo was off and 20 chicks were sitting on the ground listening to that voice. The guys eventually quit bullshitting and started listening, too. I had seen one of his first outings signing for the original Ace in the Hole copy band at Cheatham Street one evening even before that, but that night was when I first realized what he did to the women. He parlayed that charm with real talent and got a couple of early breaks and the rest is history. Last time I saw him was about 15 years ago down at King Ranch in the main house. We were both down for quail season with different family members, but he spent more time practicing roping with the kinenos than he did hunting with us. Did have a chance to joke about the good old days with him - he was talking about retiring even back then.
