George Clooney

I have not spent a dime on anything Clooney since 2003. He crossed the line and was unremorseful for it afterward. The only way I can express my opinion (inconsequential as it would be to him) is to not fund his platform.

Would be interested in Pockey's thoughts on this one . . .

Gravity.
Forget about True Grit. Gravity is going to have its hind end handed to it by yours truly in a few days.

Gravity, you'd better pepper your anus.
I can't wait Isampson. It wasn't even the best sci-fi movie George Clooney or Sandra Bullock have been in. At times I had to suspend my disbelief in the way you do when watching Armageddon.

It wasn't awful, but it wasn't great and somehow it collected rave reviews. I was quite upset everytime it won an Oscar. Best director??? Seriously, he had two actors on a green screen who gave very mediocre performances and a whole lot of digital effects. Is that really the best work a director did this year?

My Gravity review.... The Sci-Fi version of Cast Away. Just had more special effects.

I will be disagreeing with you.
Me too, and I haven't even seen the movie. But it's because I can't wrap my mind around Clooney and Bullock being awarded these kinds of parts. They both are the comical, cutesy kind of actors. This kind of film seems out of their league.

As a departure from the thread and a follow up from my previous comment, (which I am guilty of doing continuously - I'm sorry) my favorite modern actors are as follows:

Robert Duvall

Tommy Lee Jones

Danny Glover

Scarlett Johannsen (I don't know if she can act - but what does it matter? I'm shallow like that)

Jennifer Lawrence (See Scarlett)

Meryl Streep

Billy Bob Thornton

Naomi Watts

(Duvall, Jones and Glovers acting chops were sealed in "Lonesome Dove" the greatest movie ever made and just ahead of "The Godfather".

Clooney is not an actor. He is a shallow persona with a low grade charisma that attracts certain women. He is also an effective con artist with a real knack for making a lot of money for himself on films that very few people want to see. He has made about 35 films that have created him a net worth of around $170 million. The amazing part is that almost all of his movies where he was an actor lost money except the 3 "Oceans" films where he was one member of a big name ensemble cast.

Another reason Sandra shouldn't have been nominated for best actress:

There was only one really emotional scene and I'm pretty sure they just put Sandra in front of the green screen and said: "Imagine you're a rich and successful actress who inexplicably married a philandering douchebag grease monkey. Now imagine that the dirt bag just left you for a tattoo artist with fake boobs and your mother is calling to say I told you so. Now react...and action!"

Being constantly close to despair isn't really the same thing as acting.

Like him or not, your assertion that almost all of the movies in which he acts lost money is ludicrous.

2014 - The Monuments Men - Budget - 70M; Box Office - $104M

2013 - Gravity - $100M; $704M

2011 - The Descendants - $20M; $177M

2011 - The Ides of March - $12.5M; $77M

2010 - The American - $20M; $68M

2009 - Up in the Air - 25; 166

2009 - The Men Who Stare at Goats - 24; 67

2008 - Burn After Reading - 37; 161

2008 - Leatherheads - 58; 141

So you have to go back to Leatherheads since he appeared in a live action movie (I left off Fantastic Mr. Fox, arguably the best movie on his list, because it's animated) that lost money on its budget. Not to mention, guys like Alexander Payne, The Coens and Wes Anderson apparently think fairly highly of him.

I thought "O Brother where art thou" made a ton of money?

Clooney is far from a consistently great actor, but horrible? C'mon….

If you haven't seen, go rent:

Three Kings

Syriana

O Brother Where Art Thou

Up In the Air

From Dusk to Dawn

Sure, he's also a pretty boy who's cashed in on looks and a formula in Hollywood, but so what?

There's plenty of those such as Costner, Pitt and even Cruise.

So- When does Spring practice start? :)

I thought Michael Clayton was an excellent film as well.

Horrible actor.

I see the lingering popularity of Clooney, despite multiple subpar acting performances, similar to that afforded Bill Clinton.

My guess is that the bulk of both of their popularity lies with two groups - heterosexual females and non-heterosexual males.

These groups tend to confuse the desire to have sex with the man with job performance evaluation.

It's an easy mistake to make.
