Game Thread: Texas vs Virginia Tech

All five starters in double figures and 52.6 from beyond the arc. That's a winning formula. Hook'em

Disu would be my Player of the Game. He played so well, I had to check and make sure it was Disu. lol

Ramey was money in some key possessions.
Jones, IMHO, was the player of the game. He kept Texas in the 1st half and lead all scorers with 21 pts. Carr and Allen had very good games also.

True but dumb@ss play by Brock and I'm a big fan of his.

Early thoughts on beating Purdue? I've never seen this Purdue team play so I know little about them.

I have Purdue, who is very good, beating Texas in my bracket. Be that said, I hope Texas beats them. To do so they'll have to play better than they did today. ?

Jay Bilas said that at one point that Purdue was the second best team in the country. If Texas manages to beat Purdue it will take out a final four team in my bracket.

But Purdue is all offense. Their offense is 3rd in the country in efficiency but their defense is 100th.  If we can slow down Purdue’s offense we have a chance. The Big 12 doesn’t have a defense that bad.

Yeah I’m glad we got Beard.  We’ll continue to get better from here with the way he can build a roster. ????

Purdue has a big ole 7’4” guy that is going to be hard to stop.  Our biggest guy is 6’9” so they will have to get help with him.  They looked slower up and down the court than we do so we may be able to push the pace.  Going to be a huge challenge.  We’ll have to play our best to have a chance.

That's OK. I'm willing to sacrifice my bracket for Longhorn Nation. 71-68 Texas.

I thought this was an winnable game; this team makes it much harder on themselves than it should be.  Didn't like the Ramey getting in Askew face after the turnover. But that's him.

As for Perdue, run them as much as possible.  Yes, they have a big guy. Let him get his and contain the guards and wings. Make the big play in high pick and pops instead of rolls and get various guards and bigs the streak from the back line or from other angles to keep the big out of the block.  Hopefully get enough outside shots from Febres, Ramey, Jones, and possibly an couple from Cunningham(?), or Disu(?).  Need Bishop and Disu to play big on both ends.

Anyone questioning our head coach now should be checked for mental issues.

Lest we forget, Beard inherited a depleted roster with no depth.  With Shaka, it would have been a battle for last in the big 12.  Great Portal transfers aren't excited about going to a losing team.  What Beard did in year 1 was quite amazing, at least to me, regardless of Purdue.

Either you didn't  read my statement right or didn't  understand the statement.

I've been very happy with Beard. The fact that he won 21 regular season games, name another UT basketball thats done that.  Won his 1st big dance game for UT in almost a decade.   Has 2 top 15? Top 20? Players in the incoming class.  I'm glad to have him. But one person  that acknowledged your statement questioned him after losing in the conference tournament.

BTW, did Baylor care last year about not winning the conference tournament, but winning a national title?

I'm  glad to have Beard. I bet he gets us both regular and conference tournament titles and national title soon.

Should be an interesting game on sunday evening on TBS, if I'm  correct.  If the officials allow the game to be called like the Kansas games, we have a shot especially if the guards hit some 3s early and often.  Figure we need something like 13 of 28 or close to that on 3s and Disu and Allen adding 26+ from the lane and mid range and go 20 of 25 from the line or better to win against Perdue.  Something like that offensively and defensively  keep them off the boards and make the big guy only win and no one else.

Keep the boards close and turn them over more than they do us.

Just listen to yourself. All this sunshine is blinding me. lol

You and I both know we have no shot in this one. We should just mail it in and think about next year. That 7-4 guy is going to dunk Ramey.

And that, my friends, is called the "anti-jinx."
