*****Game Thread: TEXAS vs. OU*****

I remember under:

Fred, David, John, Mack, Charlie I really was in a bad mood after a loss.   Probably meant too much to me.

Today, I shut off the TV, got up and went about my day.

I guess that is one positive about the state of UT football.

We may have taken the OU season off life support but I'm not sure it has been saved. Still lots of struggles ahead for them. Minus the heart of Sam and a handful of others, this game is a blowout. Simply put, Texas is sadly not that good. As others have said, this program has been living off the reputation of Mack's first 10 years and has not been relevant for a decade. Time to find a coach that can start his own legacy.

I myself wish Herman would quit saying we had such a great week of practice because I’d bet not one person on this board or anywhere else gives a crap if they had a great practice. It doesn’t translate to Saturday’s.

Herman or whoever is going to be the coach needs to start hitting the grad transfer, transfer or the juco’s and bring in some guys. I know we won’t be in the top 10 in recruiting this year and we have to bring in more talent. We don’t have 3 or 4 years to hope they develop. Offensive linemen, LB’s for sure. If this was a boxing match our offensive linemen would be 1-3 record. Tech handled them, TCU handled them and Oklahoma handled them. Physically whipped and lots of costly penalties.

Herman said we have alot of things to clean up ??

First words out of Herman's mouth. "Hard to believe, but I saw improvement.".

How about this Tom: the offense is terrible so the defense looks good practicing. They can actually tackle because our team isn’t putting up much fight. So the defense looks good. Then on the flip side. The offense is playing a defense that has shown it will go drives doing were players are running free. So now the offense looks good too Tom. Then those players get in a game and have actually well coached players not doing the same mistakes they saw at practice and they don’t know what to do. So is it that the practices are great or is it that we just suck equally on both sides of the ball??

Maybe we’ll upset some team in a bowl that doesn’t want to be there, and Tom will get another 2 year contract extension?

Herman said after one of the games that the first string offense goes against the second string defense and first defense against second string offense.

They can tackle in practices because we don't have anyone that can break tackles.

Is Tom J. Mac. # two..
Yes!  We are on a rotating schedule:

Akers = Mack / quality

McWilliams = Charlie / horrible

Macovick = Tom / bad

our next hire will be quality.

My ranking since following UT football

1.DKR
2.Mack
3.Fred Akers
4 John Mackovic
5.David McWilliams
6.Tom Herman
7.Charlie Strong

Mackovic won a Big 12 title and McWilliams won a SWC title. Strong and Herman has won nothing.

I stated it after last game and several times today........why do we have so many players go down and the trainers have to go out and get them???? Usually they will pop up and walk off on their own power and be back in there a few plays later. Why every week??? There’s a difference between pain and injury. Herman always says he wants to be the most physical team but IMO we haven’t been the most physical team except against UTEP. That and the freaking undisciplined play. I hear alot of the coaches and announcer saying it seems like that way every week. You would think 4 years in the team would not be making so many mistakes

I don’t think it’s right to pile on after an emotional loss like this.  Wait a few days and let the emotion subside.

i do think we’re likely to lose again this year, maybe more than once because we have key players dropping like flies and my antenna is picking up a negative undercurrent at a fairly high level.

thats all I can contribute to that discussion.  Whether or not the timing of a UM hire would work out is pretty speculative but his body language certainly seems to be there.  Tom needs to right the ship and I’m not sure the team can do that, Sam’s heroics notwithstanding.
