*****GAME THREAD: No. 21 Texas versus Kentucky*****

I re-watched some of the game this morning and the biggest problem in the OL to me was Robertson/Brooks. Not as much Brooks because he is a true freshman and needs more time to develop. When Brooks gets his mits on someone, he holds his own or over powers them. Robertson OTOH, was getting maul. The blitzing was coming right into Arch's face. I don't know if Robertson was making the right protection calls, but they were out of sync. Not saying having Hutson would've been a huge difference, but I think it would've been better. Stroh and now Robertson were major liabilities on the OL. If those 2 were part of your top 7 OL, then they need to hit the portal AS SOON AS it opens in Dec. Break out the checkbook as well.

Given how offensively the O was playing, and how good Mason Shipley is, IMHO Texas should have kicked the FG on their first play in OT. Thankfully it didn't matter.

This goes to show that Jake Majors is probably the OL that we miss the most.

Sark is like biotech stock. Buy it @10.00,then goes 300.00,then goes back down to 7.00. He is at 7.00
now. What that tell ya?

Gritty win by the team.

We are so bad on offense. Defense is elite. Special teams solid.

I’m losing confidence that Arch will be a good or even decent QB. He’s a good dude and I love that he loved Texas but he hasn’t improved much. Yes against OU he moved around the pocket better but he badly regressed again. There were zero moments of that wow factor. There have been very few compared to our other good to elite Texas QBs when they are in their early playing years.

Oh well. They aren’t benching him.

Take the W and defer losing a game in the future. Vandy gonna own us. Arkansas may too. Aggie and Georgia are guaranteed Ls as of now.

There possibility of those loss but only willing to concede Georgia & maybe Sark commits more to run to help Arch. This is on Sark!

Bobby said this morning that last UT was this inept,OC was fired. Don't think Sark will fire himself. Also he is to arrogant to take any fault.

5 Quickies:

1. Texas doesn't win this game without Ryan Niblett, plain and simple.
2. Longhorns had eight first downs in this contest and just TWO in the second half. Kentucky should have won this game. Eight first downs against the doormat of the SEC is unacceptable.
3. More special teams love: H/T to Mason Shipley - 3/3 on the night including the game winner in OT. Punter Jack Bouwmeester had 6 punts inside the 20 yd line.
4. Last night was the perfect storm of everything going wrong. QB play, lack of a running game, OL woes, receivers dropping passes, suspect play calling.... Teams all season have exploited the Wildcat rush defense. Texas mustered just 75 yards on the ground, 25 from Arch. If you cannot run the ball in this conference you will lose more games than not.
5. Last night's game was the easiest the Longhorns will have moving forward. Mississippi State next week in Starkville will be a tremendous challenge. The Bulldogs lost to Florida in Gainesville 23-21 yesterday but put up 468 yards of total offense. Sark and company need a solid offensive game plan headed into this week. The Texas defense is salty but the offense works against it on just about every drive.

+1. Play the guys that give you the BEST chance to win football games.

We are really good at making the opposing quarterback look like a Heisman candidate. Boley had just as much pressure as Manning, but still made the plays consistently. Hats off to that young man.

I rewatched the 2nd half. Kentucky put 7 players in a tight box regardless of down & distance and dared Arch to beat them with his arm. Arch couldn't do it for one reason or another.

Well, the OL is the main reason. If he's getting pounded down after down, I can see him start to not trust his line, which then gets him off his game.

Give him a good line, not a great line but a good line, and he'll succeed. Just like he did last yr.
