Update: Baron Browning has cut Texas from his final 6. That hurts.

SignUp Now!1. Many forget that Applewhite had sexual assault allegations brought against him while he was a coach at Texas. Texas will not go near him if they can help it.Question, since I've seen Gilbert's name mentioned a couple of times, how impressed are "we" with him? Compared to last years atrocious offense I get it. But whether you admit it or not, he cost us the game last week. And he's made calls prior to last Saturday that leave us scratching our heads. If Herman is such the upgrade over Strong, why isn't Applewhite considered an upgrade over Gilbert? He's in Houston coaching his a$$ off in my not so humble opinion...
With all due respect, the defense has stepped up the past 2 weeks. The offense has not. Create 4 turnovers and get only 7 points against WVU? That cannot happen.Aside from some questionable play calls Gilbert has Texas ranked #14th nationally in Total Offense.
2016 - # 14 - http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/current/team/21
2015 - # 110 - http://www.ncaa.com/stats/football/fbs/2015/team/21/p3
Now imagine what our record would be without Gilbert.
That's right, stop kidding yourself into believing Gilbert is to blame for our sub .500 record.
Our problem is our #106 ranking in Total Defense and untimely mistakes.
That's a bit of an issue, yes. However, Herman is all Texas. He loves everything about it and would trust the administration to get the job done.Question... if you are a coach with a plethora of options, wouldn't a University without a permanent AD be one strike against? You wouldn't know who your boss would be in the near future.
Applewhite is not an upgrade because he's never actually called plays before. Co-OC with Harsin, didn't call them. OC for Herman under Herman's offense... no dice. I don't expect Texas to bring him. I could be wrong thoughActually, where I was going with this is if Herman is the guy, then why isn't Applewhite coming with him? Or why isn't Applewhite allowed to come with him. I'm not implying that Gilbert is the reason we are where we are. I mean, there are plenty of other reasons. But I'm of the opinion that Applewhite is an upgrade and he should be included in the Herman package if Herman is indeed the next coach...
That is true but if you think the offense is the reason we are still looking for a bowl game the week of Thanksgiving you are sorely mistaken. With all due respect, the defense has stepped up the past 2 weeks. From what I recall Major had a relationship with a student trainer....don't think it was an assault allegation but rather a poor decision by a married guy with a student. Also, a guy with a pregnant wife at the time.1. Many forget that Applewhite had sexual assault allegations brought against him while he was a coach at Texas. 2. Major is the OC at UH, but that offense is Herman's. No question about it. So no, I don't think Major is better than Gilbert because he is not as proven.
many forgot the 'sexual assault allegations ' because there weren't any. Might want to fact check.1. Many forget that Applewhite had sexual assault allegations brought against him while he was a coach at Texas. Texas will not go near him if they can help it.

Charlie Strong. It makes Economic sense.Call your shot who's the head coach next year?
your math is suspect. Yes Charlie is owed $10 million. Everything I've read shows the total assistant buyout around $3 million. The new coach wouldn't get $15-20 up front. He'd get $5-6. So your $40 million is really less than $20 million. Big difference.Charlie Strong. It makes Economic sense.
Not only do you get the $10 million buyout for Strong, you have to buy out the staff (4th 'n 5 says ~10 mil). So call it $20 million right out the door.
Plus add $15-20 million for whoever is the next head coach. So at worse, $40 million. Lot of other people's money fans seem to want to spend.
Also, it could be a 2014 scenario again. [insert fan's obsession here] or Bust. This time, it's not whether Herman leaves but who he leaves to. LSU is already open but Ed Oregeron is going to be tough to beat out right now for the job. Texas A&M is likely going to make a move as well.
Wild Card: Oregon. Oregon might try to convince Chip Kelly to come back but my guess is that won't happen. So where did some of the best players Oregon had come from? Texas. Herman runs a similar system to Oregon when they are successful.
So there could be 4 offers for Herman to choose so it's not a lock. If Texas fires Strong, strikes out on Herman, what's next? Les Miles? Will Muschamp? Who could you say would meet the extremely high expectations of Texas in a college football game where the talent is being dispersed all over like it has never been before? These are things that have to be considered.
Now that doesn't mean he WON'T be fired, it's just seems more likely than not that Charlie Strong is the coach next year.
Texas won't fire Strong unless they know they have Herman locked up.Charlie Strong. It makes Economic sense.

No, I agree with that. The majority of the year is not on the offense. The offense overall is drastically improved. Still blows my mind that a Groza Award Watch List kicker cannot elevate his kicks...That is true but if you think the offense is the reason we are still looking for a bowl game the week of Thanksgiving you are sorely mistaken.
Our team is so well coached we can attribute losses to crappy special teams, crappy defense, crappy clock management, crappy play calling, crappy preparation and I almost forgot 6 block kicks in ONE game...that was the cherry.
My apologies, you are correct. Memory fails me every now and then, should've checked that one more. However, I still don't think Texas will want him back. Will be an interesting story to follow. From what I recall Major had a relationship with a student trainer....don't think it was an assault allegation but rather a poor decision by a married guy with a student. I know what you are getting at but for the sake of argument I will stipulate the trouble in hiring Gilbert was not Charlie's fault.Harrison, I have an ongoing discussion in another thread that I need your help with.
When Charlie went to Tulsa to hire Gilbert can you positively confirm that coach Strong was authorized by Texas to 1) accept Gilbert's choice for offensive line coach, and 2) guarantee the contract demands of the line coach? Or was Charlie only authorized to hire Gilbert? If you have concrete knowledge of the facts pertaining to this matter please cite where your information comes from. If you don't, would you ask whoever would know this and provide their answer and the source?
Poor character with that escapade, apparently coaching well currently. My apologies, you are correct. Memory fails me every now and then, should've checked that one more. However, I still don't think Texas will want him back. Will be an interesting story to follow.
