Question, since I've seen Gilbert's name mentioned a couple of times, how impressed are "we" with him? Compared to last years atrocious offense I get it. But whether you admit it or not, he cost us the game last week.  And he's made calls prior to last Saturday that leave us scratching our heads. If Herman is such the upgrade over Strong, why isn't Applewhite considered an upgrade over Gilbert? He's in Houston coaching his a$$ off in my not so humble opinion...

Agreed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Fenves is the only reason we have Gilbert. Give the man SOME credit.

I'm disappointed Gilbert hasn't found a way to utilize Armanti and Duvernay more effectively. IMO, we should run more screens, jet sweeps, and - for God's sake - throw more between the hashes! But, our offensive stats have improved dramatically versus LY. Defensively, they have not.

Am I frustrated with some of the decisions he's made the last couple of games? Of course I am. However, compared to the dumpster fire we had last season, yes, I'm happy overall. This is the first season the team is running this offense, and this is his first season calling plays. There's going to be growing pains with that. Also, he's got a true freshman QB that's likely been hurt for a good part of the season, and he does not have a reliable RB he can relieve D'Onta with following Warren's injury.

If you're not happy with Gilbert, would you rather have Watson back?

Aside from some questionable play calls Gilbert has Texas ranked #14th nationally in Total Offense.

Now imagine what our record would be without Gilbert.  

That's right, stop kidding yourself into believing Gilbert is to blame for our sub .500 record.

Our problem is our #106 ranking in Total Defense and untimely mistakes.

Tom Herman. Strong has not beaten TCU in his career and is on pace to have the worst win percentage of any coach in UT history.

I agree not that he needed last night but I think it really helped his sell to Texas

I get where you're coming from but he alone did not cost us the game. The ongoing, smoldering dumpster fire that is Trent Domingue did not help, nor did losing Malik, crappy O-line play, the adverse effect of O-line injuries, and questionable game management by Chuck. It would've been nice to have that timeout instead of wasting it by sending Boo out there on 4th down, calling timeout, and then sending Domingue out there for a FG.

Actually, where I was going with this is if Herman is the guy, then why isn't Applewhite coming with him? Or why isn't Applewhite allowed to come with him. Question... if you are a coach with a plethora of options, wouldn't a University without a permanent AD be one strike against?  You wouldn't know who your boss would be in the near future.

Sorry about that, lost in translation. I've always been and always will be a huge Applewhite fan. Only focusing on his role as a the Texas OC, I thought he fell victim to having to rely on Case McCoy at QB.

As for his return to Texas, and based on sources including this board, it sounds like there's some concern from the administration regarding Applewhite's past transgressions. Also, it sounds like he has a decent shot at the Houston HC job if Herman leaves.

Major and Colt shared a lot in common. Colt was Major's kind of QB. Gutty. Smart. Fearless. Just like Major was. It was a natural fit for them both.

I know one of them lives here. I saw him down on the field during the Baylor game. I assume he was in town for the meeting they had that same weekend. Maybe I can pass along the invitation

Gilbert:  I love our new found running game Gilbert has brought.  I also would love to introduce him to the middle of the field for passing routes.  You cannot argue with the astronomic turn around from the previous two seasons; and you also cannot argue that he has raised many eyebrows with his game day coaching decisions.   

While it is a bit of a mixed bag - and enthusiasm has declined significantly.... I'm still cautiously happy with Gilbert. 

Applewhite:  With regard to Applewhite; I don't know what his offense is?  It seems to me he doesn't bring an offense - but runs whatever the Head Coach tells him to.... what UH is running now is Herman's offense that he coordinated at Ohio State, not Applewhite's.  What major is coordinating at UH is different than what he ran at Rice which is different than what he ran at Texas which is different than what he ran at Alabama.

Agree that was the case for both Colt and Case. Just saying, Case didn't have Colt's arm, and that put Major behind the 8-ball as far as play calling.
