This thread is inspired by Monarch's Commerce Thread.

Being a foodie and inspired by my upcoming travels, I'm curious to see everyone's favorite dishes, either homemade, eaten at restaurants, or discovered through travels.

German Potato Salad at Dietert Bros just outside Gainesville, Texas.

Franklin's brisket. Muellers in Taylor is a good sub if you hate lines.

What's a good BBQ place in DFW and where to get good CFS?

What's a good BBQ place in DFW and where to get good CFS?

There's not a good bbq place in Dallas. In Fort Worth, Risckey's BBQ is pretty decent stuff. North Main BBQ in Euless is pretty decent, too.

If you're in DFW and want very good bbq, then it's worth the drive to Gainesville for Dietert Bros. It's awesome bbq but the thing is, everything else is pretty special too. The German Potato Salad is as good as I've had and I used to live in New Braunfels.

Lots of places make good CFS. You can always get a good one at Roadhouse.

For burgers, it's worth the trip to Richardson for one of Dell's bacon/cheese burger specials. It's a throwback place with 1960s and 1970s Dallas Cowboys stuff all over the place. The thing is - these things have been on the walls since the 1960s and 70s so it's not like someone tried to design a nostalgic burger joint. This is nostalgia in it's natural state. The burgers are made the old fashioned way. Dell's is two blocks east of Central Expressway at Belt Line.

A consolation prize would go to JC's Burger House in Plano, located just north of Bush Turnpike on Custer.

first - walk, crawl, fly, snorkel, windsurf, hell... you can even backstroke on over to "shazzam" restaurant at the kempinski hotel, dubai, uae - there shall be fresh prawns upon all sizes on display. please choose and let your waiter know. "shazzam" waiter, shall then consult with you regarding you "side" orders - now this is really hard because the on-hand "chefs" are ready, willing, and able to prepare anything that you may possibly want... all you have to do is choose. if i'm in the mood for "fried" shrimp, i shall choose the large fresh one's displayed on ice. then i turn and choose some fresh whole potato's flown in fresh from the "states" sitting upon display. then I tell the waiter, "sir" may i have "garlic mash" along with fresh "steamed broccoli". then i proceed to tell him my room number... and i head up to my room. i unwind, put on one of my white plush "kempinski" hotel robes. within 25 minutes, the doorbell rings, i allow the waiter to enter the room and head straight to the dining area. he carefully unloads my dinner as i stand watching and yet taking in the perfect aroma. i tip the waiter... he departs. then i proceed to take the lid off of my platter.... yousa! there is an array of "deep fried prawns" meticulously displayed all around the platter. there is no way that i could eat all of these large prawns (no way!) i take the lid off of the second platter... simply loaded with the most magnificent display of "garlic mashed potato's" ever. along with beautiful deep green "steamed broccoli". did i mention the "soft buttered fresh baked yeast rolls". priceless.

For a burger in Dallas, you have to go to The Grape on lower Greenville. Texas Monthly declared it the best burger in Texas. Only available on Sunday and Monday. For any burger lover, it is a muct. Not the best burger I have had, but one that deserves to be included in a conversation about burgers.

My SF junk food place is Lefty O'Douls over by Union Square. Not a lot of places offer decent roast beef sandwiches. Philippe's in L.A. and Lefty's are two great left coast foodie places.

For BBQ, try Pecan Lodge, 3 Stacks, and Rudy's. I have not tried Lockhart's yet but I hear it is not worthy of the hype.

As for CFS, I assume you mean Chicken Fried Steak and not Charlie effin Strong but there's only one place: Babe's.

When in LA, I go to town on Korean BBQ! It's the best! My 2nd KBBQ place is, Mapo, in Queens, NY! I try to attend the US Open every year, and we usually hit up Mapo afterwards.

I never make it much past the Brass Monkey when I make it to Koreatown.

I will have to disagree with sirhorns in regards to dfw bbq. It has come a long way. Pecan Lodge in the Dallas Farmer's Market is fantastic and I have had some great bbq at Lockhart in Bishop Arts. Lockhart has been hit and miss for me though. Cousin's in the Stockyards is pretty good too. I have never had a good experience at Ricky's.

I really want to hit up NYC again. Food and nightlife is amazing. After the Knicks game, I was eating steak and drinking at Smith and Wollenskys until 3am. I mean, where can you get good steak past midnight?

Smith and Wo's is great. My favorite is Sparks. They don't mark their wine list up as much, so you can really get a great wine with your meal there. Bobby Van's in the east tunnel of the Helmsley building is a great place. Sit at the end of the bar and just people watch. Blue Ribbon down on Sullivan is a place the area chefs hang out after work. if you are a foodie, that is a great place to visit. If you want some fun, grab the Zagat guide and find the places with the greatest disparity between food rating and decor and hit them up. You can find some great dive restaurants in NYC.

Not really. Dallas is a lot about conspicuous consumption so the smaller ones get crushed. My latest Dallas find was a killer Vietnamese place at Skillman/Oram. Five spice wings and pho that are a must.
