Experience with Dementia Parent?

DMac...My Dad died of Alzheimers(...could have been Dementia. His diagnosis seemed to change).. You have gotten some real nuggets of advice. The main one was that it is not your fault and it is not her fault. It just simply is. The other nugget is that it will not get better.

I would advise siting down with your wife and having a hard talk. The Mom needs to be in a facility that knows how to deal with her. For her safety.

Here is how it will go...you will be racked with guilt....your wife will be over whelmed by it. The Mom will maybe fight it, maybe cry over it, maybe no reaction at all. In the end she will accecpt it and may even be happier for it.

If you do not place her somewhere, both you and your wife will suffer health wise. It will be the biggest test of your marriage you have faced. I do not envy you the days ahead.

Just FYI: "Dementia" is the more general term indicating a loss of cognitive abilities while "Alzheimers" is a specific disease that causes dementia.
