Emmanuel Porter Tidbit

Didn't exactly say he was yelling at him. Just said voices were raised.
He didn't even say that, he said Strong was extremely vocal. Could mean he went on a 15 minute epilogue about the situation.

Coach Strong is a very intense. If you tell him one thing one hour and then change your mind a couple of hours later, the conversation is probably not going to be pleasant.

Not sure why some would find that hard to believe.

Showing passion to a young man and telling him he is important to the future of the program isn't a bad thing.

Raising a voice doesn't mean a thing.

Get em Coach Strong

If he doesn't want to come to Texas, there is a good chance that once he arrives and he is hit with the new culture, he will not like it and leave. Save the trouble for both sides and cut ties. Recruit young men that have passion and a desire to wear TEXAS across their chest. Let him go to TCU and have balls thrown into the ground by Boykins, or that 5'6 qb they signed..

Not sure why you wouldn't understand that professionally it's never good to yell at a recruit. I think Strong would be smarter than that.

Yelling serves no purpose to UT, certainly not if you have any hopes of getting him back.

Seriously guys.

"Here is where it gets interesting. Coach Strong apparently got extremely vocal and voiced his displeasure. There was some shouting or raised voices."

Hmmm. Shouting or raised voices seems pretty close.

but as others have said, I wasn't there.

Forgive me for not believing "insiders".....

it was never said he yelled at anyone. raised voices and having an intense coversation with someone over a very important decision does not equal yelling

no one knows exactly what went down unless they heard the call - but Im going to assume Strong was firm and expected someone to honor their commitment. Doesnt mean he was being unprofessional or "yelling"

Yes, this would make sense. Did this happen?

I would suspect in all the years of recruiting CS has done that this situation is not new to him. Therefore, whatever tactic he used, one would guess, was not a knee-jerk reaction but one that was based on history that would produce the results he wanted. Whether that result being the kid stays committed to Texas or CS knows for sure to move on and fill the ship with someone else.

You guys are looking at this like an animated conversation is a bad thing. I would not.
Of course. Raised voice and shouting can be construed as different from angry confrontations. As you have said and as we have observed, coach Strong is intense and COULD easily have been saying "We are going to be TOUGH, we are going to be MEAN and we want YOU to be part of it."

I could see this as well.

This gist of it is Strong wasn't happy about it when Porter told him and it was apparently evident. Does it mean Strong didn't handle it with class? NO. Of course he did.

Porter's Coach wants him to follow his heart and play where he wants to, but his personal trainer (who has influence on Porter) wants him to play at UT.

Porter still has a trip to LSU scheduled but as of now he is a TCU commit.

Sounds like Strong could have been trying to let Porter know that he really wanted him. Gave him a pep talk, those tend to cause a coach to raise his voice. I think this will go to signing day, it can be tough on a recruit that really likes a couple of schools. Yes, he is getting a free ride but if he picks the wrong school it's not as easy to transfer as it is for a regular student. If he picks Texas and it's a mistake he won't be able to go to TCU unless if he graduates early. The same thing applies to him picking TCU. I'm not feeling sorry for him because most would love to have what he is being offered but it can be tough and he has to be 100% comfortable with his choice.

Irony of this is, he could now flip to LSU

There was some shouting or raised voices.
Perhaps Strong's voice is naturally raised. I always assumed Strong's "soft" voice was reserved for the media and everything else out of his mouth would sound like gunnery sergeant Hartman from Full Metal Jacket.

(Sorry, I've been perusing the war movies thread....)

Canceling our official visit and taking one to LSU appears that he is gone...glad Strong is going down fighting. Guess I'd rather lose him to LSU than TCU.

If he isn't going to come to UT, I would much rather he go to LSU. When we lost out last year on Andrew Billings it sucked, but not as much as it did watching him play against us.

Agreed. There's just something very wrong about losing a commit to TCU.

No, it said a Strong was very vocal and voiced his displeasure. The very next sentence says there was shouting or voices raised.

My apologies. I should have said shouting instead of yelling.
