Almost everyone on 247 are changing their crystal ball to Texas. Looks like we are the big favorite to land him. Would be a nice get.

He was always coming to Texas IMO. And he's an excellent fit in Strong's system. Probably a better fit than a prospect.

Class?

And a question for you Cosell, could you point out some similarities/differences between Mack and Strong when it comes to their recruiting practices...ie, what year do they offer a player, making visits after committing, recruiting players that committed elsewhere, etc...

be nice to get a win after losing Henderson today. Hopefully have a few more before all is said and done.

A&M staff backed off a couple of weeks ago once they felt he was a done deal to Texas. Solid player, really good coverage linebacker, perfect LB to defend the spread, think Thomas Davis for the Carolina Panthers. I'm interested to see if the new staff prefers him at S or at LB.

Strong and Bedford, have in the past used a hybrid/rover position which is ideally suited for a big S/OLB. I think thats where he will play.

I hope he commits publicly soon. We need some positive momentum.

I think it is too early to draw a conclusion on how Strong will recruit at Texas. This is a different landscape, a totally new culture for him, but I would expect he would be a little slower with the hard sell to a recruit outside the very super elite. I think you will see the no-brainer offers, maybe some other offers they will slow play, and an emphasis on out of state. The end result may be up to 7-10 somewhat early commits in Texas and then the rest will come slowly. The end result may include 5 to 10 late commits within the state, allowing a detailed evaluation of the growth of recruits, and anywhere from 3 to 7 out of state commits.

One must realize there are over 400 scholarship football players every year in the state of Texas. I would say some other regions have a higher concentration of freak players per square mile, but no one has a higher concentration of good high school football players to evaluate than the state of Texas. That's why a detailed evaluation is very important in this state. There are many good prospects but few slam dunks. Evaluation and fit are key here. Grab 10 or so no-brainers that present themselves early, offer a few other kids but don't recruit them too hard early. In other words, you're interested but you don't want a commit at that particular time. Throw out a hundred offers to the national elite. It will work itself out in the end.

Remember, this is tough business and very hard to predict. The percentages of a kid turning into a star are very low. If you are 100% sure a kid can flat out be a star at Texas, you may hit on 50% of them. So, you definitely don't want to take a kid who gives you pause, unless his upside is through the roof.

Of course this is all speculation on my part; some of it just the way I'd do it if it was my call.

He is ideally suited for the Rover/Hybrid position likely to be used by Strong/Bedford.
Can they salvage Demarco Cobbs? Can't remember if he RS'd. Is he eligible for a Med RS?

This is good news-- fingers crossed. Appreciate you sharing.
