D'Onta Foreman update.

He would be insane not to go pro. He has nothing left to prove, unless you believe he should be getting 80 carries a game! Plus he could get hurt next year. Life expectancy of RB's is usually short. Go get paid kiddo and thanks for everything.
I agree. It would be borderline crazy for him to stay. You're the top back in this class and you just had your ass run off this season. Go get that money before it all starts catching up with you.

I don't get people thinking he'd be nuts to stay at all.

1. Do you think Ricky was nuts for staying? That's the first question. The answer is no. Period. All stop. Ricky became a legend by staying. Call it what you want -- he did risk injury -- but he wasn't nuts.

2. The second question is about the running back class. Many have him projected to be the 5th-7th RB taken in the 2nd or 3rd round. Will there be anyone like Fournette and Cook next year? I don't know, seems next year Foreman will be the leader for best back / Heisman out of the gate. And with our O-line there's no reason to think he'll do much worse.

3. Then there's graduating with his brother.

4.Then there's the chance of him having a fun and winning season for the first time in his collegiate life.

So seems risk of injury is the only reason he'd be nuts to leave. But with sports medicine how it is, the only true terror is having an injury that takes him out of football for good. But there's huge insurance available for that, so the risk isn't a life of poverty. And he's personable enough to be rewarded by a lifetime of loyalty from Longhorn nation with the LHN or just a job if things don't work out on the field.

I think the young man should stay and have a statue out in front of DKR, personally.

I do believe there are a couple of very big differences in the situations:

1) The RB position has been significantly devalued by NFL teams compared to what it was when Ricky was playing.

2) The rookie salary scale throttles the earnings potential quite a bit relative to 2000.

When combined with the average working life of an NFL player, it makes less and less sense for a RB to stay in school for their senior season. It's significantly more enticing to make the jump, reduce the number of hits the body is taking for free and using that year to push through the rookie contract at a younger age.

1. Times have changed. HB isn't the position it once was and we've seen tremendous burn out at that position as of late.

2. I'm not sure where you're seeing 5th-7th HB taken but if you have supporting links, please provide them. All I've seen to date is Foreman being the 2nd-3rd best back in the draft in the mix with Fournette and Cook.

3. Sounds really nice. Not as nice as potentially gambling away millions of dollars.

4. He has had fun. He played for a coach that he really admired and was visibly upset when that coach was being let go. He would have to learn a new offense his senior year after rushing for a 2000 yard Heisman Candicacy season.

Unless Foreman gets one hell of an insurance plan, it doesn't make sense for him to come back. This isn't about school pride. It's about setting himself up for life.

Every single thing I've seen online says this. Just google "running back 2017 nfl draft."

I don't agree with it, frankly, but that's what you'll find.

Your other points are valid but I don't agree with them so much either. :) I keep hearing it's the second contract that matters now. If anything that devalues the importance of a big first time pay-out, no?

Well, based on what his Mom said, he probably isn't coming back to Texas. Said she doesn't trust Herman. If someone can find the tweet maybe they will post it. I'm sure Armanti appreciates her saying that.

Edit: It was a facebook post.
Agree, awesome of Mom to post negativity regarding Armanti's new coach. Does she trust him enough to let her other son stay awhile? Eagerly not awaiting more social media crap. Now excuse me, I need to go post to facebook and let the world know I am going to HEB to get a gallon of milk followed by a possible trip out for tacos with the family.

Not if you don't get the first contract because you returned your senior year and suffered a terrible injury. It's a gamble.

What I saw this year was D'Onta besides have great year, also getting the crap beat out of him. I would love for him to come back, but I can understand why he would want to be paid for it.

If you think sports medicine is so great than start to make a regular habit of getting into your a driving into a wall.

The threshold set by the Hit Count committee to count hits will be the subconcussive level of 20g of linear acceleration -- meaning 20 times the force of gravity. Research has shown that's around the average-sized hit in football, or the equivalent of driving a car at 35 miles per hour into a brick wall 1,000 to 1,500 times a year.
