Does Anyone Here Care About Football

Over the last 4 years the longhorns have turned into the cowboys for me…am only partially vested until wholesale changes are made. Both need to be burned down and rebuilt. I will be quail hunting in San Ygnacio for the next 4 days with buddies.
Yeah. We're heading to the ranch Monday, I need to check out for awhile. Enjoy hunting!

Coaching search? What coaching search?!

I have been thinking a lot about football lately. All I can think of is how bad off our team will be next season. Whoever comes in will have their work cut out for them.

I'm also starting to get depressed about the off season just a few weeks away. Need...more...football.

Monday is a work day, I'll probably watch but honestly, I'm not that interested. This has been a lousy yr and Mack drama has made it worse.

Unfortunately, TOTAL INDIFFERENCE. Lame duck doesn't appear to be doing much coaching. Appears that the coaching for this game is even less than what we have had over the last 4 years.
A leopard doesn't lose it's spots.

Practice reports elsewhere have been horrible. Oregon is really good. I'm expecting UT gets blown out so not much talk

i feel most of us do care about football - a lot

most of our attention/ discussion has been otherwise due to some of or all of the following i feel

1) all the info/drama sorrounding mack

2) new coaching serach

3) feeling that oregon is going to hang quite a few on us

4) indifference due to Mack's coaching results the past couple of years

I just wondered because there is not one post about the Alamo Bowl?
It is a little like asking the wrongly convicted guy who is about to be released from prison, "Hey, who wants to talk about prison rape?"

I do not mind admitting that I care much more about who the next coach is than I do about the outcome of this game. I have a friend on Skype who is in London now but who went to Oregon. He began some weeks back attempting to get me to talk about the game. But even he is now asking me questions about Saban and Fisher. That is just one small example of how interesting this coaching situation has been.

But, I feel certain that, once the game finally starts, all of us will be cheering the Horns, as always.

Don't see how that could happen with Mack Brown, Case McCoy, and Major Applewhite. From a tactical perspective, they are more useful to the Ducks than to the Horns. Kind of reminds me of a game from many years ago where fans of the other side shouted "We want Simms! We want Simms!"

Mack Brown is simply clueless as a coach.

Oregon has something to prove in this game. However, the Ducks may be so disinterested in this 2nd/3rd tier bowl game that they may turn in their worst game of the year.

Mack has a good bowl record and the team is typically prepared. Unfortunately, this one looks ugly...ESPN predicting Oregon to win by 22 pts.

We went to last year's Alamo and had fun, will watch Mack's farewell on the tube this year.

What the premise of this thread seems to not take into account, is how tired a whole bunch of fans are of seeing Mack Brown on the sideline. Many people have a hard time actively rooting for the Horns this year, even after a big play, because there was the knowledge that every positive play increase the chances of winning, and every win lessened the chance that Mack would be fired after this season. Pile on to that, the shenanigans that Mack pulled in the last few weeks and I, for one, do not want him to go out on a good note. While I want the kids to play well, I want Mack to go out with a loss. This season can't be over fast enough.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your point, I will be happy when the new head coach is hired, and we get back to recruiting and topics about the team and coaches.

I am equally as tired of the constant threads about this coach and that coach, as I am Mack.

Last year, the general tone was eerily similar heading into the Alamo Bowl. Coming off of another poor performance at season's end combined with the Mack drama, many folks feel they're making a statement by not attending/not supporting the team in this game..."and that's fair."

However, UT has a fairly rabid following in South Texas that did show up last year and had a great time, particularly in the 4th quarter. I work on the sideline for the Alamo Bowl every year and I can honestly say that the Texas crowd was as loud and raucous as any bunch of fans I've observed over the past 20 years...and I think it'll be similar to that as long as we can keep it from getting out of hand early.

Don't underestimate the San Antonio/South Texas Longhorn fans. They love a reason to party and this is an event for which they'll be prepared.

As it has always been for my 6+ decades on Planet Bevo, I'm glad to see another kickoff. My gameday job doesn't allow me to cheer, show emotion, etc., but believe me, I still get teary during "The Eyes" before the game, feel the butterflies in my gut, and have to suppress the urge to jump out of the building when we score or hit a big play....just like in my playing days many years ago.

I guess I'll always look at things through a player's eyes and be grateful for those that cheer, encourage, and unconditionally support the efforts of the guys on the field...and play my ass off despite the folks that turn their back on you when times are tough.

Like politics, I have friends on both sides of that aisle...and no matter who's coaching...or taking snaps...or leading stretching exercises, there will be a faction that'll hate 'em. I've been around long enough to know that some folks are only happy when they're miserable...but life's too short for me to feel that way.

Come to think of it, I'd be pretty sad if I found out that I'd seen my last Longhorn game...so I'll look forward to the next one.

Hook 'Em.
