David Ash would be one of the guys on the team I think it would be really interesting to have a conversation with. He knows the risks he is taking by continuing to play. This past season had to have been a surreal experience for him. I think it would be interesting to hear him discuss what he has been through and how he is balancing out the medical risks with his desire to play another season.

I've thought about this some. let's assume Ash is 100%, is there a better QB in the conference? And, if Ash is at least in the top 3, what does that do for the offense? I think we become something else this year. And I think, with the coaching our defense will get, that we will be a dominating defense.

I dare not let myself - I dare not. But I can't help myself. We....might.....just.....be.....a.....helluva.....team. (Don't anyone burst my bubble - please)

He will more than likely receive a medical redshirt for last season as well.

They also cleared him to play two weeks after his first concussion, he got hit and did not recover enough to help save Mack's job 8 weeks later. He had a very serious concussion and he will never play a down in the NFL so there is no rational reason for him to risk his future to keep playing college ball.

That's good. Hopefully the doctors are right and he won't be subjected to repeated concussions.

Not trying to be argumentative, but none of us know his prognosis and some kids don't have an eye on the nfl. Some just want to play.

That's odd, I just read a pay site blurb attributed to Jordan Shipley that David Ash has the most NFL talent of any QB that has ever played on the 40 acres! David has earned the right to play in an offense that makes sense and will allow him to develop his talent. I wish him the best and look forward to him getting back into the game.

I think you are forgetting that everyone on this site is a professional scout and football expert.

Ash might be the most talented Shipley has ever seen play, but not the most talented to ever play on the 40 Acres. Bobby Layne.

It wouldn't be on the coaches but whichever doctor(s) evaluated him and gave him the green light.

The whole thing has seemed so shrouded in mystery to me. I don't have a lot of experience - only had one concussion - but was he still showing symptoms months later or was it precautionary or what??

I think he qualified it as "NFL talent" which I guess is debateable though he probably meant modern NFL??

Ash was never concussed. His life is not in jeopardy. He is a very talented qb and will start for us. With watson's tutoring and twoore years of eligibility he could be a top 5 draft pick, just need to fix his mental processing during the play.

Well, I'd love to agree with the sentiment on this board - but I'm not near as high on Ash as others - to many INT's and misses. His stat's improved over 2012, but it was tough because of the shortened season. Outside of NT, his stats weren't hot.

To be realistic, Certainly Baylor QB is the best in conference. I think Knight reallly came on, and of course had a break out game vs. Bama. Okies State guy is OK.

I'd love to have Ash back of course - I just don't know what happens the first time he gets walloped. He won't get hit in the spring. I'd hate to rest our hopes on him, only to lose him the first game of the season permanently.

I'd be interested in hearing a Doctor's take on this, but I think it was all about nothing in order to get Ash another year and hoping the light magically comes on next year. Concussion, concussion, I had a couple back in the day when the coaches called it getting your bell rung, which was exactly what it felt like with your ears ringing. Both times I was asked to stand on the sidelines for a for a while, but could enter the game again when I could remember the plays. I remembered them fine, but they were the plays from the previous year. Over a lifetime I have been concussed to some extent at least nine time, of course that's only the ones I can remember. I do have memory problems, but so do most 58 year olds. I don't see the big deal with a couple of concussions.

He was never concussed?

That's a hell of an assumption to make. You have no idea of a few things: (1) how serious things were I regards to the injury and (2) how that injury will impact his potential to play at the next level.

I know David very well. He's capable of so much more than he has been able to show due to a combination of injuries and OL problems since he's been here.

Is there risk in him continuing to play? Absolutely, but I can guarantee you that those factors have been calculated and carefully considered. He and and his family have made an informed decision.
