Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/20/2013

beto, great to see you over here....how's Andrew doing in fantasy football this season?
Not very well...he's in past place. He's concentrating on his fantasy basketball team.

How are you beev? Most of the folks if not all know me from my postings on OB's. For years now I have been sharing information pertaining to the program. Unlike most of the posters that share what they hear from their sources, I don't and have never used an anonymous name. I was invited and joined Hornsports a little over a month ago and quite frankly, the timing was perfect because I was looking for a new place to build something that included more interaction with the common poster. As you can see, a good portion of that crowd has followed me over here and I believe they too are enjoying what they are receiving from this site.
I do not profess to a authoritative source of all the information I'm sharing. I have been tagged as an Insider which I have always stated that I am not. I have had some pretty good sources over the years that have been nice enough to share information which I pass on. I'm more or less a conduit.

My sources have not always been correct. They share what is current information and I pass that on. Situations can be fluid and they can change. Most of our readers understand this. Regardless, they have requested that I share what I'm hearing now. Most of the users are also aware that our track record has been pretty damn good to us all over the years or they would not have followed me over here.

I hope you can enjoy some of it to but, if you don't, no hard feelings.
Don't know you nor anyone else in particular on these boards, and while I view all posts on message boards with a significant degree of skepticism this board seems to have a largely civil bunch and hope lives here. Your posts and a few others on this board are all that allows this alum to see a day soon when we might finally see an end to the God awful past 4 years of wandering in the desert.

I've been reading these boards since the original Hook'em 360 Board days...as have many on here...and have been following McPhaul's posts closely for a really long time with admiration. He's as legit as it gets and is a stand up guy to boot. I've admired his contributions to the Longhorn fanbase for years. None of us are perfect and even the guys in the middle of the decision making process don't always know how things will ultimately turn out....just ask the folks on the AD Selection Committee about that one...but McPhaul has always been willing to share what he knew and his track record is as good as it gets. The bottom line is good times are ahead for us Longhorn fans...on all fronts.

No hard feeling on my part either. If you knew me, you would know I question everything. Always have and always will. I'm a huge fan of this site and The Dude. You have obviously added energy and have a following. The only following I have is my cat when he's hungry. Good luck, live long and prosper.

BagHorn,
Are you still solid with your Saban prediction?
As solid as you can be considering there are still about 6 weeks between now and the time anything would be publicly announced. The fact Patterson is now personally handling things makes me feel better that we won't screw this up down the home stretch.

I am tired of caring about the program in its present state so I have decided to start ranting about the media relations people inside Bellmont, specifically Nick Voinis and Bill Little. I don't know either of them, but from what people on the board have said. Nick is a prick and Bill is a rather nice individual. I don't think either has a freaking clue how to use social media to connect the fans with the sports programs. Their obsession with what is being said is reason enough in my mind to remove them from the payroll. Think about it. They could get a student intern with a digital camera to take pictures of the gameday experience showing how the staff gets ready, what the locker rooms look like, during the pregame meal, in the tunnel about to come out, sidelines during the game and clean up after. The program from a unique perspective. No cost. It would have most of us occupied for a couple of hours per week, let recruits see inside the program and help the fans connect with the through social media. Do they do something like that, no. Instead, they hover over message boards obsessing with the effects of their lousy job performance. I could come up with a hundred ways to use media to help the fans connect with the programs. They can't come up with any. I hope Patterson cleans house in Bellmont and I hope he does it ruthlessly. Whoever the new coach is, I hope we give him a program he is worthy of and I hope he starts rebuilding soon.
I couldn't agree with you more. Also you have 3-4 solid boards here in Austin dedicated to Longhorn sports, why not develop a relationship with them and openly post information, updates, ect. The members of the boards are arguably some of the most passionate UT fans out there so I ask why not take advantage of there passion and use it for the benefit of the program.

McPhaul thanks for sharing your information with all of us. Keep up the good work. My friends y'all have a great and safe week

Pancho,
We are not going hear much when we are 4-0?
LOL We have played four junior high teams. Give it a month we could be 4-12 by then

This is the one time I hope I am wrong but I am in the camp that just does not believe Saban is coming to Texas.

I could definitely see how Major could rub the coaches the wrong way...hell he rubs me the wrong way and I'm relaxing on my sofa.
During his post game press conferences he seems annoyed/pissed at the same time and acts like there are a 1000 places he'd rather be...

....you just described a saban interview

or perhaps 2-3 dozen other college head coaches

ie: ...bryant...DKR..hayes..stoops..harbaugh....

He was getting into with Wyatt on a regular basis early in the season. Wyatt prefers a more vertical passing game. Major gets obsessed with the bubble and tunnel screens. Major also has gotten into with Searles because of Major's tendency to go away from the running game too much at times when that is our strength after the injury to Ash occurred.
Thanks for the recap. I'm sure it's not easy making all the coaches on offense happy at the same time, but Major does seem to be struggling on play calling. Losing his top weapons sure isn't helping either.

McPhaul, if you have followed me on this site and IT, you will have discovered I have been trying to vet YOU and your credibility factor. I'm sure you understand why as there have been so many "insiders' that claim to have critical information. The responses (mostly OB posters) have been favorable so good on you.

For your own personal info I should tell you that two very good friends of mine (we went to school together at UT and one all the way from grade school in Austin) have provided me with tidbits of info along the way. They are mega-wealthy and extremely invested in all things UT - they are not on the level of Red and McCombs, but are close. I have refused and I refuse now, to trade on their friendship and trust, so, over the past two years I have simply probed "insiders" info to see if it has jibed with what my friends tell me really went down. That has been my benchmark to see if the reporters were legit or just delivering BS to create hits or "look at me" status.

Suffice it to say, the IT reporters have been dead on, 98% of the time. Suffice it to say, the IT reporters have been dead on, 98% of the time. You have reported a tidbit, today, that is absolutely accurate. I don't know where you mined the info from and I don't really care - that is none of my business. But is a credential for you - whether you give a rats or not. :)

And you should know this - at this point there is no official search committee for a head coach. There has only been a few informal agent inquiries. In fact, the search committee used for the AD will not be the same for a coach - remember, Mack Brown is still the head coach.

Oh, by-the-way, good work on this site.

So which tidbit is dead on?

A poster on IT said it best today, IMO. Consider Saban as a tropical wave in the Atlantic - The Weather Channel tracking models (the insider "Saban to Texas reports") have landfall, in the next 4-6 weeks, on the Gulf coast, with the probability (75%) being the state of Texas.

Does this seem reasonable to you?
