Crossfire with McPhaul - 11/13/2013

I haven't read all of the comments but I have a couple of concerns.

1. How is Saban going to switch jobs assuming Alabama wins out and is playing for the national title. If Mack does step down following Baylor, how are we going to just sit around and wait for Saban for over a month? There's no way that he accepts the job publicly during the in between of the SEC title game and national title because that would cause some major headaches for both him and his team. Conversely, how can we wait a month without a coach or anyone on as a replacement? Are we just going to basically sacrifice this year's recruiting class?

2. The biggest concern I have is what in the hell would happen if Saban turns us down? It certainly appears as though Briles is about to be off the market and staying with Baylor. If Saban says no and Briles is no longer an option, what's our next move? Do we keep Mack around and hope someone better comes around next year? Is there any kind of list outside of those two? Putting all of our eggs in the Saban basket is going to make us look extremely foolish if there's no backup plan. And if there is a backup plan who are those names?

I really hope Saban comes. His impact would be monstrous without question. But I just don't see how it could work logistically without Alabama losing a game along the way. I hope I'm wrong.

Thanks for sharing McPhaul but I'm confused, how can it be 100% "unless things change"??? Isn't the whole point of 100% is that it's 100%? If things could change then it could never be higher than 99%. Am I missing something?

I joined this site as a result of your thread on IT. Understand that, even though I covet Saban, I am not in the camp of those that say he is coming. I'm not trying to post up on your opinions, but until I see WHO, WHAT and WHERE the "inside information" is coming from (and this includes JS info from IT), I read all of this with a huge helping of salt.

I want to believe, I would love to believe, I NEED to believe, but I simply don't believe.

Randolph Duke, good post. What other boards do you post on?
I'm mostly over here, because I like the discussion among friends. I understand my postings are rather popular on Texags (although I certainly don't post over there). From time to time, I can be found at BC and BON (I like Nobis60's and Wescott's work). The shag when I feel like being snarky.

If I have anything to say, it can be found here. I'm not sure if you have seen my longer pieces Randolph Duke, Author at Horn Sports - Texas Longhorns football, basketball and baseball - Horn Sports – Texas Longhorns football, basketball and baseball

I especially like what McPhaul does because he understands that asking the right question to the right person and being able to get a reasonable answer is in the interests of the fans and of the program. I despise those who claim they have connections to insiders willing to go behind the back of the HC or AD and release information. Its unethical. One big problem I have had with Bellmont over the past few years is they seemed to care more about managing the perception of the program than they cared about managing the reality. McPhaul gets the reality of the program and focuses on describing the reality of the program as he understands it. No secret information, no busted confidences, no crap. I think the kind of work he is doing helps the fans connect with the program and hopefully will encourage those in Bellmont want to connect more with the fans. I hope Patterson makes people available for the writers like McPhaul and treats them honestly. It not only would be a welcome change, it would be a great way for casual fans to connect with the program and for Bellmont to get feedback on what fans are thinking or wanting to know.

1. Saban would ink a deal before the MNC but he needs to know, WITHOUT A DOUBT, that it would be kept underwraps, it has to. This is a major reason why he is so pissed right now IMO. It's too loud on our side. This is why many have said that Patterson will help walk Saban to the finish line. He likes coffee. He is the closer. I'm not sure how it works logistically, but I imagine Patterson and Saban meet face to face, ink the deal and no one outside of maybe 3 or 4 people, MAX, will know for sure that "it's a done deal" until mid-January.

2. It's Saban. Right?

One of the things that was shared with me by one of my contacts pertains to keeping things on the "DL". Saban was/is furious about these types of distractions taking place. Noise is clutter and Saban does not like clutter.
While I appreciate the info, this article seems like the exact sort of thing we dont want happening if we want Saban as a coach. Edumicate me as to why you're not taking your contact's advice.

Not trying to be an ass, but it concerns me.

Be interesting if Bama offers a "lifetime contract" complete w/$3M raise, and $50M buyout or some such. Me thinks Bama BMDs are printing the money as we speak. Or... has that already been mentioned and Saban said, "no"? While I doubt the latter scenario, Bama's bound to try and shut this all down forthwith just like Baylor's rumored to this week, even tomorrow.

What say you, McPhaul, and various plugged-in types?

...and boom goes the dynamite.

Great stuff McPhaul. Thank you!

Hook'em!

Well, beating the hell out of OSU would mean that 100% will go down.

More wins=Mack digging in his heels

I don't cheer for losses. Mack will be back if he wins out. That's the truth.

If Saban comes it wont be a decision based on money alone.
