Crossfire with McPhaul - 03/19/2014

Holy moly, talk about a cliff hanger! All I care about is those last two topics. NEED MORE INFO PLEASE!!

Sumlin has high school aged kids. He doesn't want to move them again.

Also, he likes his current job and isn't looking for a new one. The NFL was more of a threat than USC was.

If A&M is still winning when his kids are out of high school then I can see him jumping to the NFL.

In the meantime he's content here.

content in b/cs?.....yeah right

Good stuff Darrell. I'm curious is it only aggy that a case is being built against regarding recruiting or are other $ec schools included?

I would not doubt if Mack is hoping Texas tanks this season to make him the missing link. Sad really. Also, I wouldn't hold my breath on anything substantial happening with atm. Half of major college football is illegally recruiting. That coupled with the NCAA being a spineless organization equals possible probation at best. Nothing will be done and schools will continue to do what they do.

Thanks for Great Crossfire! Look forward to it every week, next week for sure after that stuff at the end!

McPhaul that statement about Sumlin is a lie. I don't know who fed you that info, but I would get rid of them as a source.
Let's get this straight up front.

My aggy sources DO NOT LIE.

If you are looking for some level of sugar coating, don't look for it on a Texas board.

BTW, I used to serve as the moderator for the NCAA boards on aggy sites because I was so unbiased.

Careful of the tree you bark up of.

Thats right Aggymatic keep barking, see what happens. Mcphaul keep up the fine fight and of course HOOKEM!

He is not barking that much but, he is dragging his butt through the grass to get his butt poop lubricant to work

I will reiterate, your sources are making stuff up or are misinformed. How about you talk to John Thornton about the whole deal. I am not looking for sugar coating, I don't claim to be the most connected, but I know much more about this situation than you do without a doubt and if that hurts your feelings then so be it, the info that is being passed originated on an LSU site for the sole purpose of hurting recruiting and it didn't take long for it to be subdued.

FOB: I did and it sure looked like the toughest region. Texas was not done any favors. It makes me sick to my stomach to see Baylor get a 6th seed when we beat them 2 out of 3 with one of those wins coming on their court.

That's because Drew seems to understand you need to peak in Feb/Mar. Unlike Barnes teams who peak in dec/jan. By the time March gets here we are dead.

You have to wait for Season 2 starting in September.

Mike, old buddy, I don't doubt you have some info on Sumlin and I don't doubt McPhaul's sources either. More than you know, actually.

Let me get this out of the way. I think Sumlin is an excellent coach and has taken the pre-recruited talent at A&M and done exactly what he did at U of H with Briles left overs. He should be given credit for recognizing the kind of kid that Manziel was and utilizing him to the fullest. He, also, knew what to do with those NFL caliber linemen, that were already there. I'm not being snarky about this as I don't think Mack Brown would have had a clue what to do with those kids. And let's not forget the currently #1 recruiting class he is developing either. Publicity and momentum has its rewards and he is taking full advantage of it.

The problem, as I see it and from many decades of observing A&M, is the aggy culture itself and what Sumlin will do when things begin to unravel. Aggie alumni are not adverse doing things beyond the rules - remember the SWC? And they are not adverse now, either. Particularly in the shady SEC (if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying) and particularly their frantic desire to show up UT and salve their inferiority complexes. And, oh yes, they have them big time. You think not? Did you attend fish camp or belong to the ridiculous ROTC cult? Did you swoon over the aggy "war hymn" and hullabaloo and caneck, caneck your hearts out? Did you (Ah,ha,ha) beat us to Chigaroogarem? Did you march in the band that "sawed the horns off" of UT at the half of the final beat down by UT? The same half the UT band played a salute to A&M, with the song "Thanks for the memories"? After watching this, which school do you think was the most paranoid and neurotically brainwashed?

Remember when ya'll talked about "The honor code" and "traditions"? Now that these things have been proven to be utter BS, where can an aggy hang his hat if not on winning football at any cost? The very mantra of the SEC, SEC, SEC.

So, I remind you, boys - you know how this will end. And long before it does, you will have seen the last of Mr. Sumlin. He will be long gone to better hunting grounds where there are no investigations or sanctions coming down.

Book it and hook 'em!

.

Alright Mike, Reiterate all you need.

I will go with my aggie sources and you go with yours.

This left a bad picture in my mind... Where do you get this stuff?

He is a fine man and well respected. But I am pretty damned sure YOU haven't talked to him. Certainly not about Sumlins interviews with other schools.

He probably would have preferred to talk to Morris Foster or Charley Schwartz. In fact he might have - or maybe not. I guess you will never know. SOMEBODY might have, surely. :)

He sure as hell wouldn't have talked to Gene Stallings and I'm sure you know the reason why. But I would talk to him before I would Jackie Sherrill.

So what was your point with the name dropping?

You really don't want to question doc on this, I know I don't.

Not name dropping, that is the source, and considering he has been with the AD for a long time, he would know more than anybody. I don't just randomly call him anytime, but he is an old family friend (dad's cousin) and I talked to him about this the week that it came out at a tailgate. That is why I am so adamant about this subject, all the other people I talk to I take with a grain of salt "(ones with rumors about boosters paying/ bidding war, who BTW matched what Mr. Thornton said), but John is a good man and everything he told me matched what happened i.e. contract amount, length, buyout, and timing of the release of the contract. I don't like the FOB talk, because if the guy is not willing to say this stuff with his name on it (especially stuff with serious implications) then he shouldn't say it all.
