I think Franklin would bring more to the table than Mora. He's a great recruiter and has won recruiting battles in the SEC against some of the big boys.
this comparison is like comparing cancer with aids, don't want either personally

Briles and Mora. No thanks. Both have proved nothing, IMO.
100% agree with you on Mora. 100% disagree with you on Briles. Baylor was a consistent doormat of the Big12 to the point that other schools wanted them removed. They have now won the Big 12 conference and been to four straight bowls while beating Texas 3 of the last 4 years and OU 2 of the last 3 years. They also have a recent Heisman winner. Again.................all of this at............Baylor.

Jim Mora Jr just signed a recent extension Jim Mora extends football coaching contract at UCLA - Los Angeles Times

Deadspin thinks he's an asshole Jim Mora Is An Asshole

He came up as mostly a defensive assistant in the NFL. 13 years working with secondaries. 5 years as the DC in SFO.

As head coach in ATL he went 26-22 (had #1 rushing offense in NFL ea of his 3 seasons)

In one year in SEA he went 5-11 (this is who Pete Carroll replaced)

Besides his dad, he worked for Don Coryell, Dennis Erickson, Dan Henning, Mike Holmgren, Steve Mariucci, Al Saunders and Rick Venturi.

They perception is that he was not great as an NFL head coach.

However, the latest perception is that he may be a good college head coach.

He has done well in 2 years at UCLA. He has recruited well and beaten USC to some players.

To me, this is a good coaching pedigree and experience. He would not be my No.1 but I think we could certainly do worse.

In all honesty, Harbaugh is worth waiting for no matter what. It seems silly to pare down your pool of elite options based on availability date. This recruiting class was always going to be underwhelming. You'd think a superstar hire could flip a few notable commitments even if they only had a couple of weeks to do so.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE!! Harbaugh is my pipe dream and if all that we are looking for is "best available" then you aren't truly going after the best of the best. I will however be rooting for the 49ers to lose.

But what happens if we wait for Harbaugh, he does not come and some of the other strong candidates are off the table? I do not believe in handing the keys to the Cadillac to someone from the Sun Belt.

Funny Friday night he was told Mack will return for another year. So aint a whole lot of trust in who he's hearing $#@! from
Friday night there were a LOT of folks thinking that. that hardly discredits Bobby imo.

In that order

If it were not for Fisher coaching in the MNC, he would would looked at as a more viable candidate.

Texas does not want to wait that long to name the next HC. Which confuses me b/c Harbaugh could be tied up for an extensive time too?
McPhaul Just guessing but could it be Texas don't want Malzahn are he dosen't want to leave Auburn. My friends y'all have a great week

Here's what we need to do. Contact all the agents of coaches under consideration. Have their agents submit an offer that the coach will accept with no exceptions. Have the offer include the expected monetary compensation and any special addenda that they would like to be included. Make the coach and agent understand that leaking any information about this process is grounds for no consideration immediately. Make the coach extend the irrevocable offer until 11:59 pm CST January 8, 2014.

If the coach is in the pros and he is still coaching, obviously you could tweak the requirements a bit.

I have not read all of the replies so I apologize if this has already been addressed, but if Fisher is pretty much off the table because of the MNC game, why wouldn't Harbaugh be eliminated for much the same reason? I realize that it is not a given that the 49ers will be in the playoffs, but I think it is very likely.

There seems to be a lot of group think on Mora. So just for accuracy, here is the UCLA information. In the 4 years under the previous coach, UCLA was 21-30 overall, and 13-23 in the PAC. Remember, the PAC wasn't very competitive during those years either. In the last 2 years, in a more competitive league from top to bottom, Mora's UCLA teams have gone 18-8 overall and 12-6 in conference. He won the South Division championship his first year and lost to Stanford in the championship game. His team lost pretty badly to Baylor in the Holiday Bowl. This years team will be facing VT in a bowl. He has also defeated his primary rival USC both years. It's not unreasonable to me, to acknowledge the turn around he has brought to UCLA and to conclude that he is a talented coach. That doesn't mean that he needs to be your favorite, but he is far better than what some are portraying.

OK will do...........glad I got my marching orders (concentrate on) so I can figure this out. HOOK'EM

Thanks Darrell for the information.

Mora is a fallback option. An improvement over Mack, but we should do better. Yes, it's that simple.

I can understand if people don't want Briles for reasons based on potential lack of scruples. If your reason is that he hasn't proven anything yet, you need to further immerse yourself in the basic awareness of college football by a factor of about 17.

There are a lot of reasons for Briles not to be considered for Texas. After the radical improvement in their defense this season, exactly zero of them have to do with his coaching acumen.

Totally this, folks. We need to quit obsessing over this one (very subpar) recruiting class. Per player average, it's easily the worst under Mack. Let's not let a decision as big as the new HC be so hamstrung by the recruiting class.
