We wouldn't consider Beatty for OC would we?  IIRC he was WR coach before taking the KU gig, which is an odd situation.  I would have thought he'd replace Mehringer, but if we went after Samples then maybe that's not the current thinking.  I don't want him to be our OC, but generally if you've been a HC you're probably not going to settle for being a position coach.

And could we get desperate enough to go after Major?  Obviously would fit into Herman's comfort hire category, and actually has a solid resume as an OC.  Just don't know if his past indiscretions make that a complete non-starter.

Absolutely!  It would've taken a couple of seconds for someone from LHN to point at the camera and say "hey coach, that's a live feed".  Also...if you're gonna broadcast any "war room" live you might want to have it on a 10-second delay just in case a coach happens to let a profanity or two slip into their vocabulary. 

 When Herman opened his Early Signing Day press conference, he started it with an explanation of what happened.

“Obviously before we start, I do want to apologize for something that ended up on live television this morning,” Herman said. “We were joking, quite frankly, about my first experience riding into the Cotton Bowl Stadium on the bus and the warm welcome you receive in the Red River game. I think I told you guys as well. When it occurred, I honestly had no idea — I wasn’t aware that the camera in the room was on live television. It certainly had nothing to do with Longhorn Network, Signing Day or anything. Again, regardless, it was poor judgement on my part and I do apologize for that.”

Herman was referencing a story that he told this fall.

“I think I’ve told the story, looking out the window and literally seeing this elderly lady that had to have been 80 years old, going double bird (indicating) to the Texas bus,” Herman said in October. “Then literally next to her was a couldn’t have more been than eight-year-old boy going double bird (indicating) to the Texas bus. It speaks to the intensity of the rivalry, that it crosses a lot of different generations.”

This is why it's best to wait until you have a little context before forming opinions.  I find it hard to fault Herman for any of this.

I remember him telling that story the week of the RRR. Also have had other coaches give me the same reply in the confines of our coaches office while sharing a lighthearted moment. So it is plausible. His quick addressing of the error restores some faith in CDC and also in Herman that he is at least aware when he makes a mistake. Hopefully this incident will add some contrition to his public appearances

CTH's explanation and apology is really about all he could say to try to move on from his lack of judgement. Though he claimed he didn't know the camera was on, appearing to look into the camera, then going double bird...  didn't help the optics.

Nothing more for him to say on this matter. Only one thing left to do, if he really wants to put this behind him.

Great insight guys.  I am by no means a professional analyst but some of these things are common sense.  I wonder about TH and his purist beliefs.  This, "Trust in the process or your training thing."  When it fails what do you do?   Continue to do the same thing and expect a different result?  When something does not work it does not work and you have to adapt.  Being so absolute that you have figured it out leaves no room to change your destiny. 

When I spoke to CDC I told him straight up the things that have brought us to this point yet again.

1.  No accountability for the coaching or the players. 

2. No player development.

3.  Winning is really, really hard mentality is nothing more than a predicate when you lose.  Could you ever imagine hearing Saban or Meyer saying this?

4.  Just because you are a Mensa does not mean you are a great coach. 

5.  Texas fans are weary and tired of their team not being relevant.  To be the butt of all the jokes. 

6.  Fans deserve better than what they have.  There are no excuses with all of the resources afforded to the University of Texas for them to be irrelevant.

7.  The Nebraska, Arkansas, Tennessee syndrome.  Texas is moving into a sphere of becoming these programs.  year in and year out only a memory of what used to be.  I told CDC that the years of poor decisions have hurt the brand that is Texas Longhorns football.  I also told him that there is some type of sickness that creates a destructive environment at the university and someone needs to flush that shit out once and for all. 

Okay, someone talk me off the ledge here.  Give me some hope.

Those are you're opinions and you are entitled to them. I agree with you on most points. However, I disagree with how you did it.... When somethings wrong at you're work with management do you go straight to the CEO? When something is wrong with your kids grades and a teacher at their school do you go straight to the Superintendent?  

Problems need to be addressed with the person you are having an issue with, then if nothing is done, you can climb the ladder. Which maybe you did? Idk.

Here's my insight into these matters when it comes to sports- When a parent or fan complains to the AD about a coach, playing time, development, etc.... The AD responds very politically and gives you all the answers you want to hear. Then the AD goes into the coaching office and shares your email or conversation, and everyone has a good laugh about it. Reason being, the AD is the CEO of the entire athletic program, CDC is mostly political, he's there to finalize hires, raise/manage funds, and shake hands and kiss babies. He knows and everyone else knows he's not an expert in football. He made the hires of the experts and he trusts them to do their job. If he didn't trust them, they wouldn't be coaching there anymore. 

If Herman blows it in 2020, he'll be fired. If he doesn't, Herman will look like a genius and CDC will reap the benefits. A couple emails from a fan won't change anything. And it's nothing both Herman and CDC don't already know.

DKR would not have done this. Herman should not have.........and this is coming from a guy who taught sailors how to cuss.This is going to haunt TH for a long time.

As a fan I simply pointed out the things that I believed to be issues with the program.  No, I am not an expert, but in this country we have the right to express our opinions and I did that.  The whole reason that I sent the emailed was because someone on another forum suggested sending an email to the athletic department like he did and he posted the link.  If it would have been a link to TH directly I would have emailed him.   

CDC could have said nothing or made no response to my email but he chose to call and speak to me which made me feel like he cared about what the fans think and feel.  Maybe you are right and he is nothing more than a political figure but the success of Texas sports is a critical part in him keeping his job.  He expressed an appreciation for the email and encouraged me to keep the line of communication open, even saying that he wanted to hear from the fans and wants them to be engaged with the athletic department.  I was not giving advice as I am not that smart or arrogant.  I simply expressed my frustration and the deficiencies that I see from my perspective.  I do not live under the illusion that my email will or would change anything.  I am not that stupid.  It felt good to be able to vent and that's all that it was about for me.  CDC and I are not friends or acquaintances and never will be. We are simply two people that had a conversation about Texas football and that's the end of it. 

Honestly for me it is more about the concern I have regarding the destruction and erosion of the Texas brand that seems to be edging us ever closer to being part of a group of programs that were once so storied and so prominent but have now been relegated into a place of permanent exile in world of mediocrity. 

We are discussing all of these issue because as true fans we are frustrated and angry with the state of the Texas Longhorn Football program for the past 2 decades.  If they were winning none of this would matter, not even this forum, which is why most people are here, to vent and give their analysis on the current state of affairs with the Longhorns. 

In my mind subject closed. Let's get back to winning a national championship with or without CDC or TH.

Based on what Tom said in his press conference, sounds like someone who is still coaching in either college bowl games/playoffs or the NFL is the primary OC target. 

Call me crazy, but if you want the next Joe Brady, you get Matt Drinkall. Have listened to him and read some of the stuff he writes and he is probably one of the brightest, young minds there is in the college game. 

That’s what I’ve been expecting.  As soon as the chosen candidate’s bowl is over, Texas will officially announce the hire.  The only times I recall seeing it announced pre-bowl is when the coordinator is being hired as a HC and they have to start recruiting

I think that this is the reason why there’s a holdup on filling out our defensive staff. We must be going for some top notch guys

I agree.  Seems that TH has already zeroed in on his guy but has to wait for the season to play out before making an official announcement.  Question is, who the hell is the candidate for the OC job?

Unlike some people here, I want Tom to succeed and I think with the talent he has coming back next year he will have a real shot. Obviously we need to really be in the market for grad transfer Lb’s if we can land one of them I think the sky is the limit for this team next year. People don’t realize how much better we will be defensively next season. 10/15 of our top tacklers were underclassmen we will improve

One other thing.  TH says he is ecstatic with the way the coordinator search as far as where it has gone.  He then makes a promise to the recruits that he will get the very best.  Wow, it better be stellar or there will be a lot of disappointment.  He is getting everyone's hopes up.  Not sure that's the right thing to do if you can't deliver.  Who would the majority of people think would be that OC?

Everybody was upset because auburn hired an OC so fast.  Their candidate was unemployed.  That’s the reason they hired fast.

The same could be said before this season started.  Tom made winning really, really harder than it had to be.  Brain fart calls on offense, not being able to find a way to get pressure on opposing qb’s, poor special teams, etc led us to where we sit now

I am with you.  I have always wanted TH to succeed for the sake of Texas not so much TH.  That's how I have felt about every other Texas head coach.  Just want to see it happen.

I think it’s either Yurcich from Ohio State( former Oklahoma st OC so he’s familiar with the big12) or an NFL guy, the position coaches that we hire will be most important tho, I wanna know who is coaching the linebackers and wide receivers
