Chip Brown burning up the airwaves

If you follow Chips pattern in reporting that Mack was stepping down, it was that Mack was to be out by friday of the banquet, then that Mack may be staying, and then that Mack was indeed out on Saturday. Chip's story on Mack's retirement was picked up by ESPN hours after he broke the story. You would think that if you have information that you are trying to keep quiet, that you wouldn't leak it to a group that ESPN has their eyes on. The national media is following what Chip is reporting. As i've said before, I dont' know if he's coming or not, I know a couple of people who believe he is. But this is a situation where being wrong about Saban in saying that he's not coming, isn't a bad thing.

Earlier in the day yesterday, OB moved Saban up on their coaching hot board only to render it a virtual impossibility later that evening. Expect many more turns heading in to the week of the Championship game.

I like Franklin and have been on his bandwagon since last season, but how did Chip go from Fisher to Franklin practically overnight?

I just can't take what Chip reports with much more than a grain of salt anymore.

I don't think you need any more proof that Chip is being misdirected that what is starting to come out in the last couple of days IMO.

this is pretty much proof someone is twisting Chip around to get out some agenda driven stuff

to go from touting Fisher as a #1 guy in their chat thread yesterday, to moving Saban up their coaching board along with Fisher, Briles, etc as the top guys to claiming Saban is basically nearly 100% dead to Franklin should be watched closely in a matter of 24 hours? also claiming Powers is involved when every other website is saying this is Pattersons show, and Powers will approve what SP and the committee

come on!

My question for Chip would be: if Powers will not sign off on Saban because he does not "win with integrity", how can Powers sign off on Franklin and support him with the rape allegation hanging all over the Vanderbuilt program? Something is a little off here IMO.

All he is saying is "keep an eye on". Nowhere does he state Franklin is the #1 target or is even going to be the next HC.

Seems lost on many on OB right now.

Yes. "Keep an eye on Franklin," translates as, "These are not the droids you're looking for." (pretty sure I've said that half a dozen times during the last three weeks.)

Agree with what others have said ITT.

OB and Chip move the needle per se and are the last guys you want getting a hold of info if the goal is be quiet about it.

Chip is being used as a smoke screen to divert the crowd. IF he starts reporting Saban then you can count on him probably not coming.

The two candidates that are in the front are Saban and Fisher if you believe HS and JS which I do.

Saban has now been said to be near 100 percent dead and Fisher is now replaced by Franklin...hmmm

But he does say that Powers would support Franklin, which makes no sense at all given the allegations surrounding the Vanderbuilt program at present. I am not saying that the players are guilty (the case has not been tried) or that Franklin is culpable in the least. However, as the head of that program, it places a very dark cloud over Franklin as a potential candidate anywhere, much less a program like Texas. How could a university president of any institution support a candidate with this much negativity surrounding him?

Frankliln would be a comfortable hire for all those who would want to have influence on the direction of the program. He would be in way too deep at Texas and would lose his identity. And IMO he doesn't have that great of an identity to begin with.

IMHO, this is further evidence that Mack's insistence on "anyone but Saban" has little to nothing to do with "winning with integrity" and everything to do with Mack doing everything possible to prevent a home run hire coming in and immediately making him look as incompetent as he has been in recent years.

I agree completely that he would be a very comfortable hire, without the allegation hovering over him. No large university, in its right mind, would hire him until the investigation is complete and a trial carried out. That is my point. Texas cannot afford to hire Franklin at this time IMO

Peter Principle.

This "controlling the message" crap from Bellmont is getting tiring. Add that on top of Chip Brown being their mouthpiece, and it's downright annoying. It's 2013 for petes sake. There are a bajillion websites/reporters/twitter accounts. If you dont want the message to get out in the first place, tell your people to shutup. Once it's out, it's out.

Also, I don't know why Ketch/OB allows for this. Because if he's wrong (again), one would think it damages his/the sites credibility. ESPECIALLY at a time like this when misinformation can really hurt your cred. Brown stepping down/Saban potentially coming in is likely the biggest story since the internet became what it is today as far as Longhorn sports is concerned, and for OB/Chip to potentially whiff that bad can't be good for business.

I, for one, welcome our HornSports overlords when Saban is named.

No more comfortable hires. I want someone with an edge. Saban and/or Fisher. Age is not a factor as Saban is not a normal 62.

I liked the analogy of who holds the power. And it's not Powers. Each day brings an interesting amount of twists and turns. That reminds me. I need to stock up on good sipping whiskey and celebratory cigars. Keep at it boys. And thanks for this site.

Saying Saban to Texas is dead and all other rumors are just that
Since Chip was castrated by the national media, he is afraid to tell anyone if the sun is shining.

I feel bad for Chip.

Saban is coming. Franklin is third tier and probably won't be considered.

We hire Franklin. His Vandy problem goes to trial. Guilty verdict comes. We look stupid.

Uh, no.

now Chip is claiming he's just saying Franklin is liked by enough to get an interview....and that he interviews so well its something to watch lol. He still thinks Saban is out. he's all over the place...now talking about Art Briles and his buyout
