Texas Longhorns Rumors: Texas Targets Ohio State Offensive Coordinator Tom Herman

According to a well-placed source at Texas, the Longhorns have targeted Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman as an ideal addition to Charlie Strong’s staff.

While no deal is imminent and there’s still no guarantee that Herman will agree to leave, Texas is weighing up an offer for the 38-year-old coordinator. Despite being born in Cincinnati, Herman has eleven years of coaching experience in Texas, and he spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons as a graduate assistant with the Longhorns under Mack Brown.

Herman’s stock has skyrocketed in the past few seasons, and the proficient offenses he built at Rice and Iowa State caught the attention of Urban Meyer. Meyer brought Herman to OSU with him as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, and when you see the statistics, it’s clear why:

2011 (before Urban Meyer took over): 4136 total yards on offense, 104th in Division 1-A

2012: 5085 total yards on offense, 64th in Division 1-A

2013: 7167 total yards on offense, 5th in Division 1-A

It’s unclear what kind of offer would tempt Herman into leaving Ohio State, but money has never been an obstacle for the Longhorns. At just 38, Herman still has room to improve, and Texas is determined to find the best possible coordinators out there – a key factor in making the transition to Charlie Strong as seamless as possible.

Just noticed the article was from yesterday

though he is on the list Burton was hearing

TEXAStrong.... or blank check? All the same. Get it done.. I want some serious momentum to signing day.

That's a hire I could get behind. Since UM is an offensive HC, you gotta figure this might appeal to Herman not only from a money standpoint, but also full autonomy under a defensive HC.

Not impossible. .. we saved 3 million a year from not getting Saban... jaja

I'm sure he would HATE having a resume that included theOhio State University and Texas. How would he ever recover from that?

Best option on paper for sure. Would love to get TH here as OC/QB coach.

Please! Pretty Please!

It's from yesterday morning. I know because that's when I first read it. They also reported we were offering John Harbaugh last Tuesday. So their credibility is worse than @beingreal.

3 years prior to joining Urban Meyer (an offensive guru in his own right) and getting a Heisman caliber QB here were Hermann's offenses at ISU:

Total Offense: 79, 99, 60

Scoring Offense: 103, 97, 90

He had a good year at Rice in 2008.

A poster on IT is claiming he's the hire and will be announced tomorrow but no idea if he's legit

I hear OSU is determined to match any offer TX would bring to him. Would be tough considering OSU has just as deep pockets as UT and rumor has it that Herman really wants to hold out for a HC position as his next gig.

He read the thread on OB about the Chatsports article. He commented in that thread before posting on IT. Don't think he knows anything other than just throwing an opinion.
