So apparently there's conflicting reports still on who is going to be the play caller on offense. Certain people in the media have been told it's Wickline and other people in the media have been told it's Watson.

I guess the media doesn't know they are being played? From the beginning I said Strong should slow roll this whole process and not give anybody an idea of who the offensive coordinator is until the season begins. Strong is doing just that, and I absolutely love it. Now teams have to prepare for a Louisville type offense and an Oklahoma State type offense. It's all about a competitive advantage. Coaches do the same thing with injuries all the time. I said Strong should have done this from the beginning, but I never knew he would have actually done it.

Strong may have decided to keep the OC decision in the dark due to backlash over bringing Watson on board as OC. About 99% of commentary on this board alone was anti Watson, but we know strong wanted to be loyal to his guy and bring him to Texas. In retrospect it makes more sense to position an experienced play caller in the role vs a great position coach even if he is not a "splash hire".

I am not going to worry who the play caller is as long as we are winning. I will call it "lets trust in CS to do whats right for Texas." :D My friends y'all have a great weekend.

There are several things in that article that are good for a chuckle, besides the comment about play calling. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/jeremy-fowler/24472325/charlie-strong-getting-comfortable-at-texas-with-movie-star-help

Strong evidently has a very dry sense of humor and I wonder if he doesn't go trolling for fun.

"He spotted Johnny Depp in Austin last night but didn't stop and say hi. Strong had to rest for one of his 5-mile runs at 4:30 a.m."

“We go out to practice and no media came to practice,†said Strong with a laugh. “So I said 'OK, ya'll don't want to come, ya'll don't have to come, the media's shut out of practice.' I think that's why everybody got upset. I just said you could have sent a beat writer or someone there.â€

I think a lot of people had a biased perception towards Watson based on what he did to Colt while at Nebraska. I'm still a firm believer that smash mouth football wins titles. Teams that can line up and pound the rock, keep possession and hit receivers/tight ends on play action passes. Look at Bama and even Florida State. Florida State pounded the rock a lot more then people think and utilized a whole bunch of play action passes to its tight tends. Gimmicky and spread style offenses can win games there's no doubt, but I still question it's ability to win titles. Also, you have to have an offensive coordinator that fits the system/mold of your head coach. I just can't see a Morris and Strong meshing. At the end of the day you want a coordinator that can coexist with your head coaches philosophy. The other problem with someone like Morris is he was going to be gone within a year or two as a head coach. I honestly don't care who the coordinator is, Wickline or Watson. It's still Strong's team and I guarantee we are going to see a lot of smash mouth football regardless of the coordinator.

Agree with your post. Good to have an OC you have had success with and know what to expect from. Also, if Watson was successful at UL with the talent he had, imagine what he should be able to do with superior talent at Texas. I don't recall the Colt thing completely, can someone give me a refresher?

There's a youtube video of it somewhere. Watson jumped in Colt's face in the Big 12 championship game, that's about it. Won't say I liked it but really didn't bother me. It's a heated and emotional game.

Don't forget Miss State's "pistol" formation and running game that Coach Koenning brings with him. \m/

Strong has been a disaster. He thinks he is coaching at Louisville and is recruiting accordingly. Now he comes out in favor of renewing the series with Aggie? I wish we had kept Mack.

I only have one question regarding Strong. How much is he buyout?

1-Strong has been on the recruiting trail for all of 3 months. SMH1

2-Why wouldn't you want to play Aggy? I think it's a shame that two rivals aren't playing each other. I completely agree with what Strong said. SMH2

3-"I wish we had kept Mack". I can't SMH enough.

4-Wanting a coach gone before he's even coached a game. SMH some more. Mack was everything right with doing things correctly off the field, but everything wrong with actually winning games on the field.

I honestly hope this was a troll based on the thread title. If so well played.

The pelini bros were awfully classy after that Nebraska loss as well. Fiery yes, classy not so much. Always thought pelini was a d-bag, and his brother even more so. Coaches and players need to win with class, but also be grown ups and lose with class. Reminiscent of a certain USC QB who was sour grapes after NC game at the rose bowl. However, Pete Carroll was the epitome of class after losing that game. Gained new respect for Carroll after that game.

The OC is not always the play-caller. Heck, I remember when the QB used to call the plays in the huddle. It wasn't that long ago.

That said, Wickline is the OC, no mistake. The OC is in charge of putting together the schemes and game planning. In this day and age, they usually call the plays but not unheard of to delegate that job.

Wickline is on record saying he will take input from ALL the coaches. Strong has said the offense will be multiple. I don't think even they know what exactly it will look like come opening day.

I could see the play-calling being done by both Wickline/Watson with Koenning occasionally making the call. Everything will depend on opponent and circumstance.

Will it be too many cooks?

I should be interesting.

Thanks for your contribution. By the way, I hope you live under a strong roof because, you know, the sky really is falling...

I've seen several posts recently from beevomav in this vein. I see the number of posts listed and the VIP designation, and something seems off. So I am asking,

1. Is bmav having a breakdown?

2. Is bmav feeling neglected?

3. Does bmav have his panties in a wad?

4. Did CS hurt bmav's 'ittle feelings?

5. Is bmav playing the devil's advocate?

6. Has bmav's account been hacked?

If 1-4, then I shall ignore in the future. If 6, "then someone get that idiot off the goalpost!"

Hook 'em, Charlie! I taught a 18 month old to cheer today when he sees the Longhorns playing. He cheered lustily whenever the Longhorns had the ball! Texas, Fight!
