Charlie is being careful with Ash

Ash will not play this week due to a hit he took in the first quarter.  I saw it, was concerned about it.  In fact, I said, "Oh crap!", when it happened.  A fellow sitting beside me said, 'he is fine'.  So much for many guys who have played.

Charlie said David was fine when he left on Saturday.  The issue surfaced on Saturday night.  I don't know if the problem surfaced from readings taken from the helmet, which the new helmets are capable of, or if David started experiencing symptoms.  I am thinking that it was readings taken from the helmet.  That is the only way that I think they know for certain which hit it was, and Charlie is certain that it was the first hit he took.

Heard and Swoopes will get equal snaps this week, if I 'heard' correctly, no pun intended (but it is a good one).  Swoopes will start...per Charlie.  Wouldn't it be a kick if Heard actually started?

Desmond is starting!  Oh yeah!  Now Desmond, let's kick some ass!

As well as raising the issue of why he was still out there with the game in hand in the 2nd half.

I watched carefully when Ash took hits. If he can't take those hits, he just shouldn't be playing. Sad, but there just weren't any really bad hits that I saw. If he plays again, there will eventually be worse ones.

Unless Swoopes can get his head together, the Heard era is about to begin.

What has Charlie Strong done to merit the comment that he is being careful with Ash? Quite the contrary, he played him until seconds were remaining in the fourth quarter. Makes no sense, especially since the game was over at halftime.

Ash was supposedly wearing the same helmet or type if helmet that he wore last year, not one of the new ones. Ash notified the training staff Saturday night/Sunday morning that he didn't feel right, per Horns 247.

I believe in the press conference Strong said that Ash told them yesterday that he thought it happened on the first play... Strong and no one but Ash was aware of the injury... infact it appears that Ash was not aware of the injury until he started showing symptoms later that night after the game... So any implications that Strong was aware of an injury and let him play is false...

I think Strong has used sound judgement with regard to Ash.  He has also coached him to play smart and avoid using his body as a battering ram.  The damage was done last year with the previous staff who did not do the same.  If you don't agree, that is your prerogative.  It is also my privilege to disagree with you.

David was celebrating during the game like I have not seen him celebrate in quite some time.  I think that makes this much more difficult to absorb.  The brain is quite a mystery.

I think I read (or watch) something that head injuries and their long term effects is always going to be inherent with football. Now, those are the researchers unafraid to go out on a limb and shake up the NFL. Most researchers say the jury is still out on that reasoning.

I think 100 years ago, people were aghasted that universities would be sponsoring what they called a "barbaric sport". Here is a link to an article about some people's views back then on it. I don't believe it's very political but here is an excerpt.  

When the Progressives turned their eyes to football, many saw nothing but the violence. If their first impulse was to wince at the brutality, their next urge was to protect the boys and young men from what they considered a frivolous and fatal activity. Why pass laws to get children out of urban factories and coal mines if they were simply going to maim themselves on football’s killing fields? They saw the sport as an unacceptable risk and believed that its participants were not capable of making their own judgments about the costs and benefits of the game. Now whether you go right or left, aren't we having the same fundamental arguments about the game that they were 100 years ago? I do believe the future of football will get political if it hasn't already.

My young one as most know had a severe concussion in April 2013. We still have to tread lightly with any "bump" as kids get even though she was cleared to return to exercise after a couple months. That was one concussion. There is no telling how many Ash has had or how many times he's worked through symptoms before.

He needs to retire. Now.
