Just watched a clip of a LHN segment with Cedric Benson and Ricky Williams discussing recruiting. Good to see Cedric, he was extremely eloquent and informative on the segment. Sure hope Malcolm Brown can have a Cedric-like season next year! I see him as a big back who can run through linebackers or attack the edge like Ced did in his prime. Enjoyed watching him play during his time on the 40-acres.

He never caught on with a team after last playing for the Packers I believe a few seasons ago.

I will respond with the top 5 RBs I have seen play at DKR: 1. Ricky 2. Jamaal Charles 3. Ced Benson 4. Hodges Mitchell 5. Priest Holmes

I guess my list is representative of my age! I almost threw Shon Mitchell in to the mix! I always cringed when that guy ran because he held the ball like a loaf of bread on his forearm without securing it properly. That guy had amazing straight line speed, and shared the backfield with Ricky and Priest. Quite a collection of backs that season.

Obviously, Earl and Leaks would make the all-time list...but this is the group I have seen during my life on the Forty Acres.

Let me know what anyone else thinks, feel free to blow up and/or dissect my list and tell me who I have forgotten from recent years!

In terms of seeing play in my lifetime:

1. Ricky

2. Benson

3. Jamal

4. Priest

5. Does Ramonce Taylor count?

Ramonce had blazing speed, wish that guy had kept his head together. Always remember him being busted in a car with a load of grass in a big 12 championship backpack...way to conceal your stash in a non descript place that can't be traced to yourself. But that delay draw TD run vs USC was priceless!

1. Earl

2. Ricky

3. Metcalf (have to include receiving yards as a true dual threat)

4. Cedric

Ramonce had the craziest kickoff runback I ever saw and it went for less than 35 yards against OSU.

1. Earl

2. Ricky

3. Jimmy Saxton/Jamaal Charles

4. Pickem: Benson, Gilbert, Metcal, Leaks, Worster

The best 3 were Earl, Ricky and Jamaal. I believe Charles would have also won the Heisman if he had come back for his senior year.

Benson played high school ball for the Midland Lee Rebels. They won state championships his sophomore, junior and senior years. In each of those three state championship games he scored 5 tds...for a total of 15 tds in state championship games. Pretty awesome in my book!

I loved Benson, but at the same time always thought he could have been even better. Never could put my finger on it, especially considering how good he was. Just always seemed like he had more to give. Still great back on the forty.

His freshman year was one of those signature Mack moves where he wouldn't let the youngsters loose until after OU. His sophomore year he was hampered with that shoulder stinger (from the CU) and the turf toe.

While I think he was a helluva runner I completely agree that he left so much to be desired in both college and the pros. He had such great vision, balance and instincts. Not the elite speed but he was quick. Should have been even better but still finished 6th all time.

Campbell

Leaks

Worster

Gilbert

Saxton

Charles (reminded me of Gilbert)

Benson (but I thought he was somewhat of a disappointment)

Ford

Holmes

Benson never quite lived up to the hype surrounding him coming out of high school but he experienced a lot of success at UT. Hated to see the off the field issues he had in the NFL. Wasn't he recently DJ'ing at the Yellow Rose too????
