BIG12 Games

I understand what Mike is saying when he says he hopes they all crash and burn. He claims they hate us. And they do. He's not wrong about that.

Thing is, someone sitting with a Bama cap on a Bama board could say the same thing.

Or Ohio State.

Or USC.

As a consolation to you both, how about we agree that we CARE about those teams that are on our schedule in that we hope they do well against everyone but us (except OU, whom we hope contracts a giant, team-wide case of season-long diarrhea) so that it helps our SOS.

I didn't know the thread had anything to do with cheering for the Big 12. It seemed to me just to be a thread where we're watching the teams we were told would be good turn out to be not so good.

Its a free country, I suppose it can be whatever the board wants it to be. I think the SEC! SEC! SEC! conference allegiance thing is confined mostly to the SEC. Aggy is the classic example. They know they'll NEVER get out of the middle of the SEC West. So they cheer for conference. Its the only superiority they'll ever feel. And even that is delusional.
This is the important distinction, IMO. Aggies root for the SEC so they can ride the coattails of its success. The UT fans who root for other Big XII teams tend to do so from a strength-of-schedule perspective. How can we expect to 1) see significant improvement out of our players, or 2) be ranked well and have a shot at a big-time bowl if our entire conference schedule involves playing teams who can barely beat FCS opponents? Of course I'm exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea.

No, thats a promise. And I know where you'll be. I don't care who knows you personally, I'm just there to meet you.

We'll have a great time, I promise.

You probably could have got your point across without trying to involve me in your porno thoughts, but hey, you didn't and now here we are.

BTW, lol, some of the people who know you personally here have already contacted me to pitch in for the fine. lol

i understand what he is saying as well.  however, there is no logic in this: "they hate us".  "i'm gonna hate them too".  again, provide a logical explanation on how it helps us when our conference loses, then maybe i'll agree.

does it bother me that they lost?  no.  i wish they would've won because it helps our conference.  i'm not going to lose sleep over it.  did i want to see ou beat houston?  yes.  did i want to see tcu beat ark?  yes.  i work with a bunch of aggys.  luckily for me, most of them are civil.

That logic would mean that an undefeated Houston team will be out of the playoffs, which I don't agree with. We on the other hand are a household name and a brand. The Dallas Cowboys are awful and have been for more than a decade however they get more recognition and nationally televised games then 4/5th of all other teams. (I would know I live in Florida). They are a brand and because of that they will be given opportunities that other teams won't get.

Same thing holds true for us, we are a national brand and because of that we will always get opportunities that most programs won't get. We win one game and all of ESPN and America is ready to anoint us king. Even with one loss and I can see us getting a shot at a playoff spot.
If you guys want to ride the coattails of history and the name "Texas" then go for it, but that mindset is EXACTLY what brought the program crashing down. That entitlement, that "we are Texas, therefore opportunities should be given to us" is not what Charlie Strong is trying to build, from the players nor the fans. You guys slam SEC teams for scheduling cupcakes, and here y'all are wishing that our conference is full of them! Personally, I'd rather know that we are the best team in the country because we beat the strongest teams in the country all year long, and I'd like everyone else in the country to know that too. Do I want them to succeed for the sake of "conference success" and so that I can chant "Big 12, Big 12, Big 12"? Hell no. Do I want them to beat other teams so that it's that much sweeter when we kick their ass and everyone knows exactly what our boys have built? Hell F'n yeah.
