Like you, I have read almost everything available on this subject. Although the reasons you stated are true, they are not the only or main reasons.
I ask this question because I am for adding UH and at least 1 other school. If the BIG XII is going to expand, do you not think that we should have a Houston university among our members?
I have heard it said that by adding Houston, the existing members would be diluting the fertile recruiting grounds. While that may be true, how damaging would it be if Houston were to join another Power 5 conference?
And for that same reason, I believe the only reason the BIG XII extended an invite to TCU was because they had agreed to join the Big East. That would have given a recruiting foothold in DFW to another conference. Regardless of all the PR and as much as I would like to compliment Chris Del Conte, the only reason TCU was granted the invite was because by joining another conference they threatened a major portion of the BIG XII footprint.
If I were Houston, I would send overtures to the ACC et al letting them know that the best available non-Power 5 program in Texas is open for business and ready to join the P5.
Texas had a great day today. So, it is easy to assume that all is going to be right in the BIG XII because the good guys won today. However, OU and OSU signed less than 10 Texas players today, combined. The SEC, Texas, Baylor and TCU have made Texas a much tougher place to do business for OU, OSU and Tech.
And a scary thought: What if Charlie wins 5 games next year? Getting errbody might be a flash in the pan.
To lose Houston would further weaken our conference and that is why the Cougars must be added.
