Had a meeting at the capitol on Wednesday morning and a few buddies that work for a company I do business with offered to take me out to lunch afterward. So we go to Bess Bistro on West 6th and I really dug the place. Not because it is owned by Sandra Bullock but because the food was incredible. Started out with the fried green tomatoes, which were topped with sliced jalapenos and a scallop and proceeded to devour a cup of gumbo. The rue in the gumbo was too thick for me but the gumbo is average. The main course was nothing special... but it was FREAKING AWESOME!
It was called the CROQUE MONSIEUR.
Here it is:
CROQUE MONSIEUR shaved Applewood-smoked ham, toasted mustard aioli and Mornay, served with open-faced on pan levain with truffle and parmesan pommes frites $13 (add a Coyote Farms over-easy egg for $2)
Yes, I got the egg on top which evidently transformed the sandwich into the "Croque Madame." How adding an egg on top makes it more feminine I'll never know....
It was delicious as hell and I am definitely going back. Maybe next time Sandra will be there.....
