Bama fans getting nervous on no extension being signed for Saban

It appears that MB is really trying to derail that Saban to Texas deal. My friends y'all have a great week.
He just needs to step down to get the ball rolling.

Dizz I'm not a member of 247, but is Burton really saying Mack is gone and that Saban is an option? That would be a huge change if true.

Guys, welcome to our world. We have been telling their fans that you cannot take him for his word (note to you guys to remember if you do get him) and he did the same thing at Mich. St., LSU, and Miami. However the Bama faithful think that because they are Bama, that he wouldn't do the same thing to them that he has done at every one of his three previous gigs. I don't know if he is going to leave Bama but if I were a Bama fan, I would be very concerned about his wife's statements. Many of the fans will wish him well if he goes but I also expect that a fair number of them will spew hate and venom, despite what they currently claim that they will do. It is for those arrogant and pompous irrational fools that I will have to start cheering for Texas, despite how much I don't like Saban. That being said, be warned, likelihood is that if he moves, he probably only has this one left but you just never know with him. Get ready for everyone warning you every year that he is going to be going to X school or that the NFL is going to come calling and he will want another chance. "Just part of the process" in Sabanspeak!
BTW, I know much has been made of the rumors and there is much angst over how the current administration is handling this but has anyone confirmed if Texas has asked Bama if they can speak or negotiate with Saban?
sarddog, I moved to West Monroe a few years back and work with quite a few LSU alumni and donors. It seems like pretty much all of them are hoping Saban leaves because they don't think Smart (if he's the guy) can continue doing what Saban is. Many of them can't stand Alabama and many of them don't seem to really have an opinion about Texas one way or another. It also seems like they can't stand A&M and wish Texas had been the school in the SEC instead of them.

Since moving here I've definitely made LSU my 2nd favorite team and hope Texas can get back to the standard similar to where you are. I know a lot of you guys can't stand Miles, but I'd take a 10 game winner each year and title contender every 2 years or so any day of the week again.

Speaking of LSU, heard a rumor today that Cam Cameron is not getting along with the AD and could possibly be looking to get back into the NFL next season. Have you heard that?

im not a member there either anymore but he apparently posted basically what the football rumormill put out last night about Mack and listed the Candidates with Saban at the top

Since according to Burton himself, anything behind a paywall is considered "news" (and therefore no longer proprietary as long as cited)...here's the latest from Burton himself. Mods, feel free to delete if necessary.

Yesterday, I listed what I am told are the top three candidates in order.
1. Nick Saban

2. Jim Harbaugh

3. Jimbo Fisher

**

I am told nothing has changed in the last 24 hours to alter that list any whatsoever outside of the fact that there are some "concerns" about just how deep Harbaugh might go in the playoffs.

**

After talking to more folks with knowledge of the situation, a second group of candidates would include Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and LSU coach Les Miles. I am told those two are not necessarily in any order.

I am told, however, that if it gets to this second group that it could open up an entirely new list of candidates (like some of the NFL names that have been mentioned at times).

**

As it relates to Miles, the two-time national champion has a daughter currently in school at Texas and that certainly could be a pull for him if the Horns were to approach him.

As for the current staff, there have been two fairly vicious rumors put out that involve Major Applewhite that were forwarded to me so I asked a person who is as close to the situation as possible about them.

Rumor #1: That Major Applewhite had been given a 24-hour opportunity to leave Texas to become the OC at Florida.

The response: "That's crazy. That's not real. Will has not called."

Where did the rumor come from?

"A couple of Florida websites called Major after Will fired his OC. They asked Major for a comment and he gave them nothing. Major told Mack about the phone calls but it was communicated at the time that Will had not once reached out to Major and he still hasn't. It's all BS."

Rumor #2: There was a heated discussion/argument between Mack and Major at halftime of the Baylor game.

The response: "That's just not true. It was 3-3 (at halftime). Neither offense was playing great. The weather sucked. The discussion was, "Hey, let's do whatever we were doing in the second quarter to keep the run going. We probably left some points out there with that reverse (to Daje). We need to find a way to get out of these third and longs. There was some talk about what Case could throw."

Was the conversation contentious in any way whatsoever?

"Absolutely not. We were kind of confident about where we sat because we had started moving the ball (in the second quarter) and they (the Baylor offense) had kind of stalled over and over. It's just not true."

So to sum up:

1. The reality, from all sides of the situation that were actually there, is that there was no absolutely heated argument between the Texas staff during the game. None.

2. Secondly, as of 9:10am Monday, there has been absolutely no contact between Major Applewhite and Will Muschamp.

**

Yesterday, some people asked why Texas was out offering scholarships and meeting with recruits yesterday while the staff appears to be in obvious peril.

Here's the response I was given was telling:

"There's a job to do. Until there's no job to do, it's business as usual," a source told me. "This staff is a group of professionals. Paid and paid well to do these jobs in easy times and bad."

**

The New Mexico Military defensive line tandem Terry Ayeni and Edmond Boateng will both visit Texas this week. Boateng is scheduled to visit Wednesday-Friday while Ayeni is expected Friday-Sunday.

**

Unless something has changed in the last 12 hours, Longview defensive tackle Zaycoven Henderson, the state's top defensive tackle, is expected to sign financial aid papers with Texas early this afternoon.

**

The last thing I need to cover as it relates to the coaching situation is the timing. When might all of this go down?

As of late last night, I was not given any specific time frame for anything to occur. I asked and I was not given a firm answer.

Mack Brown was not part of the team meeting last evening. As we reported beforehand, this was a normal end-of-year team meeting on the Sunday following the final game.

Nor should anyone take Brown's absence as sign of anything. Brown has missed these meetings before for the exact same reason in previous years - the College Football Hall of Fame gathering in NYC.

So as far as I'm concerned, I'm on high alert as it relates to timing though I still believe strongly that the time frame of Nick Saban potentially becoming the head coach must be before the bowl game if that is to occur.

I have to agree with everything in the first paragraph especially that Texas would have been a better team for the SEC. A&M got lucky with JFF being there in their first two years in he SEC and I think that they are going to be middle of the pack to stay once he is gone, which I expect this year. Texas has much better potential to contend year in and year out but I think that the LHN would have been a big problem. There are some Bama fans who are fun to chat with however the overwhelming majority are rude, obnoxious, arrogant, delusional, hypocritical, obsessive, whiney, pompous asses who drown out the rest. It is for them that I hope that they get what they deserve and are in denial that could possibly happen (Saban leaving and a return to pre-2007).

My opinion is that I like Miles and I really like how he is willing to take chances at times. They may not all work out and some seem like a monkey on a football with how they turn out but my take is that he puts it in the players hands and they determine if they succeed or not. Sometimes it works out (LSU vs UF in 2007 with 4 or 5 4th down attempts successful) and sometimes it doesn't (LSU vs Bama in 2012). He does have some recurring issues which can be frustrating (clock management and O-line and D-line penalties/lack of discipline) but I still feel that he is a good coach for LSU right now. He also has done some really good recruiting however lately it looks like that might be sliding a little. That could potentially be his downfall if he doesn't shore that up although Texas may fix that for us also.

As for the Cam rumor, I haven't heard anything about that although I am admittedly not in any inner circles. I would be surprised if he left now, though, as all indications were that he was content and is set to double his salary next year.

Cam is kinda sitting pretty at QB and has done a great job so far. Id be surprised if he left as well.

From one of the Tidefans posters. Rusty Mansell is the Georgia 247 guy. They're not enjoying themselves at all today...
