JessN: Sources say Saban, Bama are close on contract - Page 8

i've tried not to pay much attention to this board because they have thought there was zero chance Saban would leave mighty Bama (Im sure us Texas fans would feel the same if in the same position), but they had reported the other day an extension was close to being finalized

now one of their Senior mods is backtracking and feels things have changed. He isnt as confident in that happening and getting nervous

One of their senior mods is telling them there is GENUINE reason for concern. lots more worry over there now. they are wondering whats going on. Said mod even got testy when someone questioned him as said wasnt in the mood and not happy right now (Saban)

people wondering if Saban would leave...why he hasnt signed it.

Very interesting. I read the entire thread and they were veery reasoned and didn't seem to jumping out of windows. Also they seemed almost resigned to the fact that he might actually be leaving/retiring.

Tell them not to worry, the Univ of Texas has a bunch of dumb asses running the school. A president who is friends with the coach and wont fire him, an AD who is handcuffed by his own president and a few rich guys who make the calls but have no balls to be competent.
where did you here this from......If true I see why we are having all this trouble with Mack Brown!!!!!

I don't know if Saban is coming to Texas or not, but it's awfully funny that some of those folks think they're not going anywhere simply based on the Saban's stating they would not be. Miami anyone? Gullible much?

The average Tide fan is clueless as to what is about to happen. Like SG mentioned, Saban had a 2 hour window to the entire college football world about the rumors and didn't address them.

If Texas can handle their internal chaos, Saban is coming.

Guys, welcome to our world. We have been telling their fans that you cannot take him for his word (note to you guys to remember if you do get him) and he did the same thing at Mich. St., LSU, and Miami. However the Bama faithful think that because they are Bama, that he wouldn't do the same thing to them that he has done at every one of his three previous gigs. I don't know if he is going to leave Bama but if I were a Bama fan, I would be very concerned about his wife's statements. Many of the fans will wish him well if he goes but I also expect that a fair number of them will spew hate and venom, despite what they currently claim that they will do. It is for those arrogant and pompous irrational fools that I will have to start cheering for Texas, despite how much I don't like Saban. That being said, be warned, likelihood is that if he moves, he probably only has this one left but you just never know with him. Get ready for everyone warning you every year that he is going to be going to X school or that the NFL is going to come calling and he will want another chance. "Just part of the process" in Sabanspeak!

BTW, I know much has been made of the rumors and there is much angst over how the current administration is handling this but has anyone confirmed if Texas has asked Bama if they can speak or negotiate with Saban?

No, we have not. All talks have been with Sexton so far.

Sardog12. Nobody can officially ask to speak until there is an opening and the job is officially opened and posted since it is a State job. But we all know by now that "our people talk to his people to test the waters" so to speak in all of these higher profile positions.

Saban has had interest in Texas for a year now, but the Bama fans have denied it. Now their insiders are getting nervous it seems because they know he hasnt signed an extension thats been sitting on his desk

Then yesterday you have someone like Bobby Burton (who is seen as someone who only reports things he's triple confirmed and in the past has been seen at times as too tied to Bellmont and doing their bidding) who has been casting off Saban as much of a real candidate suddenly reporting Mack is done and Saban was at the top of the candidate list. No idea if that means anything but sounds like he either got some info from their Bama 247 people or someone told him he better start talking about it

Texas has no obligation to ask permission to speak with Saban. I can guarantee you Texas as not asked UA for permission to speak with Saban. Saban's contract requires him to inform UA before he speaks to any other organization (college or pro) about a new coaching position.

Let us have our eyes open when we ask for Saban.

If he were to become HC at Texas, the following things could be expected:

Texas fan websites will be inundated by 'the process' talk as the ultimate arbiter in every argument.

NC will not bleed burnt orange. He wins because that is the one thing he excels at but do not mistake that for loyalty.

He will not play Texas' traditional role as coach. He builds and wins his way, period. If you don't like it don't hire him to do his thing.

And so on

Just go into this with your eyes open because we are inviting Godzilla into our village.

Thanks. I didn't think that they would have to wait until it was posted before requesting to speak with him although, as you point out, there are always channels to gauge a person's interest. I would be surprised if things don't happen quickly now since there is really nothing to hold it back from happening or at least being announced. It is funny to me to read how many fans appear ready to crucify the Sabans if they are even considering a move to Texas, despite their previous comments of how they would give them a pat on the back and thank them for their recent fortunes. Guess they are showing more of their true colors now when the chips are on the table. As for Texas, truthfully, I have only followed them with average interest previously because of the obvious differences in conference strength philosophies (defense vs offense) and that LSU hasn't played them that often (once in my lifetime) however Mack has usually fielded a strong team and is usually at least in the hunt for a conference title. I still think that if he puts the school above his ego, he should step down this season and sooner rather than later before he becomes another Bowden by staying too long and causing more harm to the team.

It appears that MB is really trying to derail that Saban to Texas deal. My friends y'all have a great week.
