Bama fan speaks on Coach Saban Rumors

Willie,
My son is in school for his Maritime degree. He wants to be a Captain of a boat/ship for the inland waters so, I know what you speak of. He is already being recruited by shipping companies that navigate the Mississippi.

However, I don't see the oil running out in Sabans lifetime?

Brother, it is all good. We are a very proud people. Both you and Realtor are good people. We all can see that. We all get emotionally invested at times so, tempers can flare.

The Bama poster I mentioned goes by a longhorn or orange moniker which is not necessary. He is not fooling anybody and we would like to share with him that he can state his stance without being under a ruse.

So all you guys are saying that Saban is coming to Texas to be the head coach???. Sounds good to me.

Jeff while I agree with what y'all are saying that Saban leaves because he wants to the money sure can't hurt. My friends y'all have a great weekend.

here is our AD,

Bill Battle, played for Bama, Coached for Bama, was hired at Tennessee as HC at age 28!!!!!

great story....

he made hundreds of millions of dollars since 1980

sold CLC for $243 million dollars to IMG

CLC, owned by BAMA (Silent partner under Bear Bryant) and Bill Battle, took a piece of the action of EVERY SINGLE Texas fan's purchase of UT Longhorn memorabilia for the last 30 years.........just like you "support" Florida every time you purchase gatorade product.

Bama says "Thanks"

My brother came down for Thanksgiving. He still lives in Tuscaloosa and is intimately involved in UA football, including his friend who is Saban's personal assistant.

He was shocked to hear what you guys suggested about Saban's financial situation. He said that after the 2007 market collapse, all was made well and that Saban has all the money he will ever need. He adds that Saban and his wife are not the type to trade life's comfort and pleasure for a few, or even vast, more amount of money. He said, #1, that the Texas Longhorn Network alone was a deal killer. Saban would NEVER spend the amount of time required to fill the LHN time. And that he, Saban, thought that the LHN what was the cause of Mack Brown's collapse the last few years.

So Saban is not coming to Texas.

Maybe you can get Malzahn, he likely would have great success at Texas.

Best wishes, and congrats on the big win!

please don't be presumptuous or elitist
there are enough of them in Washington DC

.....

I grew up in Tuscaloosa..........

I.....would......trade......anything......for .........that........life.........again
Hey WillieBoy, glad to see you back...not being either presumptuous or elitist....this is apparently how she actually feels. She prefers a bigger city with a more cosmopolitan scene. I wasn't trying to bash Tuscaloosa. I have never been there personally. I'm sure it's a nice place. We can all say he said she said however ultimately this will come down to what actually happens....and we won't know the final answer there for another 6 weeks or so.

Willie, once again with all due respect....it's not a matter of whether you guys have alums and donors who are rich....I'm sure you do. It's an order of magnitude thing. At Texas we currently have double digit multi-billionaire major donors. It used to be 9 but the last few years have created another handful more.

This exchange reminded me of a story that was once shared with me (just to show a little self-deprecation) about a Texas multi-millionaire high roller who was playing craps at a high roller table in Vegas and noticed some other guy receiving even more fawning attention from the staff. He went over to the guy and introduced himself and explained he was worth $250M and was curious what the other guy did to get so much attention. The other guy was an Australian multi-billionaire worth almost $10B who replied to the Texan..."So you're really worth $250M?"......"Yes sir, I surely am", replied the Texan proudly. The Australian replied, "well, in that case I'll tell you what I'll do....I'll flip you for it".

It's all relative.

It's all relative.
no

it is NOT

if we were talking about high speed rail line

or another supercollider, like the one built already, just improved

or a subway system for Austin

etc etc

but we are not.

we are talking about a College Football Coach

the amount of money you could possibly EVER throw at one individual who would be a state employee is simply not

out of the reach of Alabamians.

You are mistaken, and simply have not thought this through

Our AD has a net worth of over $250 million, our Athletic Director!

lol

and you guys still don't get it

oh well

this is likely my last post here

I was interested in learning why you guys thought you could outspend us for a College Football Coach

I wish you all the best, hope you get a great Coach

If you get Saban, I wish him the best, he has been great to us and deserves whatever he wants

take care guys

Adios!

Willie, I don't think you understand...a net worth of $250M doesn't even come close to getting you into the the high roller crew at Texas. Donating $250M to the University would though. We have guys that donate that much and ultimately more...lots of them. This is not a debatable argument.

I think Willie is only pointing out that you really can't outbid Alabama and he's right. It's not like we're going to pay Saban $20m a year. And even if we did, they could (but wouldn't, and neither should anyone) match it. So in terms of the relativity you have to consider the salary.

Well, he's right about not outbidding them strictly on salary. It's the other forms of compensation where the playing field is heavily weighted in our favor. In terms of basic salary compensation there is only so high you can go...even when resetting the bar....due to political considerations.

Let me get this straight... So according to Baghorn, UT will get Saban because it has a few billionaires on it's alumni list more than Alabama. That will be the draw for Saban. There apparently will be sweetheart deals under the table to entice the esteemed head coach to come to Texas and to pull him from the brink of bankruptcy. The CEO from Exxon Mobile will hook him up with venture capitalist firms or give him cash in an envelope - or whatever...

I respectfully disagree.

There are apparent serious political problems entrenched at UT that are a real issue with your coaching search. Unless this culture is changed you will have some turbulent waters ahead. Already some moves have been made, and I think that the shift is changing to getting a NC rather than focusing on some thin conference championship. We will see if this holds true - or if the status quo will stay in Austin.

I wish UTNation the best of luck. My family is from the mighty state of Alabama. The only fans more arrogant than Notre Dame fans are the Tide fans. UT fans are pretty obnoxious as well - so I'll include you in this elite club.

"The only fans more arrogant than Notre Dame fans are the Tide fans."

True.

And one of the other reasons (outside of money) that could compel Saban to leave.

I'm cool with you not believing a word of this...hell, the vast majority of Longhorn fans don't believe any of it either. Obviously, the only meaningful "proof" that what I'm saying is true will occur if/when Saban is announced as the next head coach at Texas. Until then, everything divulged publicly has intentionally been designed to steer the discussion away from Saban to Texas happening. The WSJ article, rumors of alternative coaching targets ala Harbaugh or Mulzahn or any one of a number of others that will predictably pop up via well placed plants in the media over the next weeks is all part of it. Saban is very serious about being committed to winning the MNC at Alabama and wants as few public distractions as possible from achieving that goal. This is the smoke and mirrors phase and it will continue like this until it goes down.

That said, I'm not talking about what might happen. I'm talking about what HAS happened. This has been done for a while now.

Just to be clear - what exactly has already happened?

You said "if/when" regarding Saban coming in the first paragraph...

At any rate, I'll be watching. I am tired of pawning my season tickets off every weekend!

The terms have been worked out and agreed to by both sides although including his budget for hiring his staff, etc. The clincher is high value assets worth up to 9 figures have already been put in his name contingent upon him being the Texas coach within a few weeks of the end of the season. I expect there to be some additional late negotiating still to occur...it happens in every deal I've ever been involved with...but it will all get handled.

Are you kidding me? You're coming on to a Longhorn board and talking about arrogance as an Irish fan? Additionally, because one fan claims we have more money you're lumping a whole fan base into the "arrogance" category?

POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK.

Notre Dame is the most entitled and arrogant University in college football. How your school managed to maintain respect after 20 years of terrible football and insignificance is beyond me. Somehow you guys got lucky with getting into the NC last year after several close games to mediocre teams. Of course you were exposed after getting taken behind the woodshed by Bama.

Nevertheless, whoever Texas tags as a coaching staff will undoubtedly be respected and focused on winning.

I didn't address this part of your post which is arguably the most important bit. You are correct that we have had political issues in the past. However, in the past year a whole new group has come to power and are leading the charge to address all issues. This group includes key Board of Regent's, the next Governor of Texas and current Lt. Governor, and the wealthiest and most powerful behind the scenes mover and shaker in the Texas political world. These people have one by one addressed all the big issues with the final key bits having been addressed in the past few weeks.
