Austin Eats: an attempt to revive the board

joeywa.....you are my hero. I had worn out my search buttons looking for the place. I dont know why I couldnt find it. I will get up there as soon as I can. In the mean time, do yourselves a favor and get some of their link sausage.....none of that turkey or chicken crap....get the real deal. I promise you wont be disappointed.

Sadly, I could only give you 1 like for that info.

I was, and continue to be a bit confused by your reference to going to Dallas, and referencing Uhland as 'up there'

It's out east of Kyle, just outside of Austin and San Marcos. Not sure where you're located, but it may be closer to you than you think. :)

I am in San Antonio so Uhland is "up there". What I meant by Dallas was that that damned sausage was so good I would drive to Dallas to get it. Sorry for the confusion, but again thanks for the info.

OK, that makes more sense. Ha. Apologies for my misunderstanding. I'll make a trip there on my next trip for the links.

You can't go wrong with anything from Bonton...They have great steaks, awesome marinated fajitas, pan sausage etc etc. Take a cooler with you and load up. Also, we've had deer processing done there forever (dad had a deer in their freezer in Kyle when the store burned down). Their pan sausage is the best I've ever had.

Huts, Matt's, Dirty's, Magnolia....old time favorites. For a breakfast suggestion aside from aforementioned Kerbey Lane (prefer original location), try Counter Cafe on Lamar; between 6th an the "air Conditioned" Tavern. Pan sausage, homemade biscuits, fresh locally raised eggs, and great pancakes

Styles Switch BBQ on North Lamar is really good and they have a cheese jalapeño sausage that is wonderful. Cooper's (downtown Austin) has a porkchop that is a meal by itself and is to die for.

Went to Black's on Guadalupe a couple of visits back.  Solid, very solid.  Been to the original Cooper's in Llano, as well as the one in the Ft Worth Stockyards, so I'm interested in giving the one on Congress a try.  La BBQ is also on my list.  Been to Stiles before.  Aggie owns it, and it's not bad.  Wasn't thrilled with the brisket the day I went, but everything else was pretty good.

back in the '60s there was a BBQ place on 1st St down by the River that served everything on butcher paper by the pound. It was very small and honest to god, had a dirt floor. There were ancient beer boxes stacked 4 or 5 high against the wall. Everything was very good, but I have no idea what the name was.

For Breakfast, you can't be the Omelettry. Can't beat the eggioomical with a short stack.

Magnolia Cafe is good too. I remember when it was the Omelettry West.

For a Mexican style breakfast, migas and huevos rancheros, the best place for decades was Cisco's on

East 6th Street. I haven't eaten there since the early 90s...I'd like to think it's still just as good.

For the record, I'll be picking up some sausage tomorrow for grilling from this place.

Joeywa...My son picked up some for me the other day. Back when it was the best ever, they just made smoked link sausage. Now they have varieties. That worried me, I just tried some of the smoked links and they were very, very good. I will be back myself as soon as I can and hope to be able to see it first hand....Anyway, I say lucky you....ask for the original links, but try the others.

oldhorn-these are freaking awesome!! Thanks for the rec!

Glad you like em. ....Funny....sausage seems to be a pretty subjective thing. What someone likes, someone else might not. Having said that, I have always thought they made the best sausage anywhere. Now dont tell so many people that they start raising the prices....
