Augie Garrido

I have no clue what Augie is going to do but a coach isn't going to announce he's retiring right before postseason play.

That's pretty much what you expect any coach to say at this point in the season.

If Augie says he can't fix this and he's retiring we might as well end the season now.

Piece in the AAS 'Hookem' today quoting Augie as saying he won't resign and he can 'fix it'.

It's deja vu all over again.

Yeah, I wouldn't have expected a retirement announcement today. Best case, a 'we've got games to play this season and I'm not worried about next year' would have been nice.

Nevertheless, "I can fix it" coming from a past his prime UT coach doesn't have a good history.

I can fix it. Then why isn't it fixed.

This may just be him acknowledging that there's a problem.  Who knows?  I know that today his press conference/media time had a different air about it.  In the past, any questions about his future were met with a bit of fire and brimstone, and apparently today he was calm and open to talk about it.  There are just some really odd vibes coming from several places right now.  I don't claim to know what that means, but we'll know something soon enough.

That's the thing joeywa, in the bit to distant past this whole situation would have been met with hell fire and brimstone. That's the only reason why Ive advocated he retire is I don't think there is any of that left.

Your list should be

O'Conner (Virginia)

O'Sullivan (Florida)

Corbin (Vandy)

Make those three tell you 'No.'

If you whiff on all three, then you start looking at names like

Savage (UCLA)

Casey (Oregon St)

McDonnell (Louisville)

Next tier is

Tadlock (TT)

Hefner (Dallas Baptist)

Bakich (Michigan)

Some may ask about Schloss at TCU, but I don't think he is a good fit here.
O'Conner from Virginia.. Can't see him leaving something that he has built.

O'Sullivan From Florida.. See Above

Corbin same thing..

All 3 have built something that they take pride in.

The only one on your list that I could get behind is Hefner from Dallas Baptist, takes the scraps and turn it in to a highly competitive program.

I am going to come from this a bit different..

There is an assistant coach that I have enjoy watching and listening too as he is working..

That is Tim Corbin's top right hand man, Travis Jewett from Vanderbilt.

I like Jewett, but there is no way UT hires an assistant coach for the head job.  Ain't happening.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that it is one of the top three I mentioned, and we don't have to get to the second tier guys listed.

The UT job is highly coveted in the college baseball world.

You really think that a coach at Virginia, Florida, or Vanderbilt would NOT come to Texas?

Well, a coach from TCU turned a position with Texas football due to family reasons so yes, it's possible. Believe it or not, there are some people who actually like living outside of Austin or the great state of Texas.

Those are the ones we scratch off the list.  :D

Not buying this premise. any coach we would want has built something somewhere. Hell, Augie built CSF and we got him.

FYI, I have heard from a couple of folks that Augie will be done at the end of the season. Whether he pushes to complete his contract (through 2017) will merely dictate how much or little buyout he receives.

Kevin O'Sullivan is the name I'm hearing. Of course that could change, but that's the word as of now.

Apples/oranges. 1) it wasn't the HC job and 2) he wasnt sure his boss would be here more than one more year.

How often have we seen a high profile head baseball coach go from one program to the next..

Garrido, Fullerton, Illinois, Fullerton then to Texas

Paul Mainieri Notre Dame then to LSU..

Brian O'Connor coached under Mainieri at Notre Dame

Kevin O'Sullivan graduated from Virginia.

This could lead to a dominoes affect in a few years for those 3 schools.

Tim Corbin, why would he leave Vanderbilt to come to Texas. He has the resources, the hardware, the reputation..

If Texas will not give the reigns to Skip Johnson, then I want a young highly successful Asst Coach from a high profile program that understand the recruiting world of High School/Select Summer Ball teams to take over.

I refuse to accept that the all-time CWS leader who hires coaches every quarter century will not be able to entice a successful HC from another school.

Replace Augie with an asst? I just don't see it.

Guys,

It should be one of the following: O'Sullivan, Corbin, O'Connor or Casey.

Shouldn't go any further than that. It darn sure doesn't go to the assistant level.

Also, Tadlock just got an extension through 2022.

Start paying attention to contractors as well, to see if the fences get moved in per Slim's requests!
